A bus with spirit.
I found this bus pretty much by pure luck. After skimming the Air Cooled Buy and Sell classifieds (see the VW Links page), I found nothing. On a whim, I used the browser's "find" function to search for "GA," and up comes an ad for a '67 camper and a few other busses. A couple emails and a phone call later, I went down to Macon to look at the bus. I'll be totally honest -- when I first saw it, my initial reaction was "Oh, not again!" But as I got closer, it became apparent that the bus was in very good condition, and complete! Really what triggered the initial reaction was the fact that it was on the ground (no tires). I bought this bus from George, who had owned it for over twenty years. He told me a few stories about the bus which I intend to document on this site, and told me about its condition. We talked for quite some time, about both busses and life in general. A really great guy to meet. The bus had been named Gus by his daughter, and I want the bus to carry on with that name. George told me that this was a bus that really had some spirit in it, and after looking it over and sitting in the front seat, I'd have to agree! I can't wait to get started putting this fantastic vehicle back on the road.
This bus is complete down to the rear splash pans on the back bumper. About all that I noticed missing straight off was the rear apron, and George says this is probably around somewhere. It does have some rust in the rocker panel underneath the cargo doors, and undoubtedly some of the floor which is covered by rubber mats and carpet, but this is the most solid bus that I have owned so far.
