Gus's progress

The first thing to do is to get it home! Gus is sitting on the ground right now. I plan on using the wheels from the '62 for now. Then we'll get it towed home, and I'll clean it out and really get down to nuts and bolts on what needs to be done to this bus.

Rust repair will be the usual for busses, mostly. The cargo door rocker panel definitely needs to be replaced. That is the only rust that is obvious on the outside besides some spots of surface rust on the vehicle. The bus has belly pans for structural support due to the pop-top in the roof, George said that they were in good shape but since the bus is on the ground I haven't been able to verify this. Parts of the flooring inside the bus will probably need replacing, I'll need to get the bus home first to determine how much. After that will come the task of getting the mechanicals in roadworthy condition again. The front end is supposed to be good as is the transmission, but the bus has been sitting for a while so who knows! I plan on using the engine out of the Kombi at this point but I'm not sure what I will wind up doing. Might get a new one money permitting.

As far as the interior goes, I'm going to need a new pop-top canvas for sure. Some work will need to be done refurbishing the interior, but it looks like it can be made serviceable again fairly easily. The front seats in particular are nice, I don't think they will need reupholstering. I think I'll be replacing the shag carpet with something else, though ;-)

That's about all I know, for now.
