MADISON COUNTY Madison County is in Northwest Florida, approximately 50 miles east of the capital, Tallahassee. Madison is one of Floridas oldest counties and is home to nearly 20,000 persons. The city of Madison is the county seat and most of the population resides near there or the community of Greenville. Farming, food processing and timber products provide the majority of economic activities. Madison County is bordered on the east by the Suwanee River and on the west by the Aucilla River. The Madison County Health Department has been assisted by the volunteer services of their local Lions Club and Kiwanis Club. Immunizations and eyeglasses for children have been available through these cooperative efforts. Local dentists have served as volunteers to conducts screenings during Childrens Dental Health Month. The health department works collaboratively with the county school system and PTO to conduct vision screenings for students.
