Here, we also learn that Paul Johnson has AIDS. Attacked one night while working late at his office, he was injected with a syringe that contained the deadly virus. He had nothing to live for after that. He was discriminated against not because of who he was, but because of what he had. With the help of Christina, a former New York City cop, and her friend Carlton, an expert on weapons, they developed the ShadowHawk armour and weapons.
Paul became the man to wear it. But with his condition he needed to take medication constantly, and vials of pills were kept in pouches around his belt.
Paul Johnson is revealed in this story arch to be a dying man fighting a dying battle.
