The Skraelings live in all of the temperate areas of the northern continent of the New World. The area they inhabit stretches from Naggaroth in the North to Lustria in the South. The northernmost tribes are constantly at war with the Dark Elves of Naggaroth and the Chaos forces of the Northern Wastes. The Skraelings are a varied and widespread people, and their culture reflects this. The Skraelings of the coastal areas and mountains build towns with buildings of log and stone, surrounded by log palisades that are sometimes built upon steep ramparts. They have a well-oganized tribal structure with laws and customs governing daily life and their dealings with others. They are a tall, dark-haired, dark-eyed race with a deeply tanned ruddy complexion. They wear clothing of cotton, linen, furs and soft deer skins, with much beadwork and other decorations. The Chiefs and Warchiefs wear elaborate feathered headdresses and carry ceremonial axes or maces. One aspect of their dress that they will never be without is their medicine bag. This is both talisman and statement of who they are. All Skraelings wear soft leather shoes or boots which they call mocassins. Some in the northern areas also wear heavy fur leggings and heavy fur coverings over these mocassins. Most wear a simple cloak of cloth or fur, but some wear long coats made of wool felt and coloured with elaborate stripes and geometric patterns.

The Skraelings of the open areas such as the plains live in conical tents called teepees and carry their belongings and tents from one camp site to another as they follow the great heards of bison. They transport their belongings, the aged, sick or injured, on travoises pulled behind their horses. These nomadic Skraelings are some of the finest light cavalry and lancers in the known world. Many an invader has made the mistake of underestimating a Skraeling army much to their sorrow.

All Skraelings are warlike and are a warrior society. The men train for war from the time they are young boys. They are also trained in the ways of the wilderness to track and hunt animals, to live off of the land, and to survive conditions that would kill the average Old Worlder. A Skraeling warrior can run all day, living on nothing but a handful of dried maize and water, and still be able to fight a pitched battle. The Norscans call them the Ghosts of the Forests. This is where the name Skraeling comes from. The Skraelings themselves refer to themselves as the people. They have many tribal names, but they consider themselves to all be one people. They may be fighting each other one day, but they will unite to expel invaders the next day.
