Why is it that only in the United States that the show is called Mission Genesis, while the rest of the world knows it as Deepwater Black? Simple--micromanaging on part of the Sci-Fi Channel. The show was originally called Deepwater Black, as early press releases and the Creature from the Sci-Fi Channel indicate--but I guess they just didn't like it, and the show was renamed to the more straight-forward, simply-put Mission Genesis after the episodes had been filmed.
However, the producers assured us that both shows are pretty much identical. If you want to get to the nitty-gritty details, here are the differences:
One of the producers said that the reason it was changed was that Deepwater Black sounded too much like SeaQuest.
If you go to the YTV\SFC websites or pictures from those places, you may find that they are in different perspectives than in the aired version of th episodes [ie. the picture of Yuna and Gret from Plague from the Sci-Fi Channel--Yuna stands on Gret's right in the picture while in the episode she stands on Gret's left]--I think that they were captured before final editting on the episode was done, so they probably didn't use the take that the screencap had been taken from.
