William was born an Eddes and kept that name until he was at least 12 [1870 Census]. He apparently then took Winesett as his surname. Carroll County birth records show him born in 1851 but that just may have been the reported date as his age was listed as 2 on the 1850 Federal Census.

The 1880 Federal Census for Carroll County lists William, age 29, Mary L. C., age 26, and Nancy, age 60 [67 is more likely], in Piper Gap District.

The 1910 Federal Census for Carroll County lists William, age 59, and wife Lucretia, age 56, both born in Virginia.
