2007, Year of the Pirates

New adventures in Marseille with the efficient taxi driver, Daniel, and the clumsy cop, Emilien. When the belgian public ennemy arrives in the city and gets lost by the cops, only Daniel and his new Peugeot 406 (James Bond would be jealous of) can help retrieve him... .
my call: The first opus was a masterpiece...I cannot say this for the second and third movies...This one gets a bit more rhythm. Unfortunately, it is not as funny as expected, despite a few hilarious scenes...Let us pray there won't be a fifth Taxi...

Based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, "300" concerns the 480 B.C. Battle of Thermopylae, where the King of Sparta led his army against the advancing Persians; the battle is said to have inspired all of Greece to band together against the Persians, and helped usher in the world's first democracy.

my call: I really did not like "Sin City" and thus went with great fear to see this new adaptation of yet another Frank Miller's comics. One word: "WOW"!!!! An epic story, certainly violent, but still magnificently screened. The combat scenes are not for all eyes cause their realism is quite astonishing. A masterpiece....(I still do not like Sin City. Sorry Ruben)

Edward Wilson, the only witness to his father's suicide and member of the Skull and Bones Society while a student at Yale, is a morally upright young man who values honor and discretion, qualities that help him to be recruited for a career in the newly founded Office of Strategic Services (OSS, the predecessor of the Central Intelligence Agency). While working there, his ideals gradually turn to suspicion influenced by the Cold War paranoia present within the office. Eventually, he becomes an influential veteran operative, while his distrust of everyone around him increases to no end. His dedication to his work does not come without a price though, leading him to sacrifice his ideals and eventually his family

my call: mixed feelings...the distribution was promising but I left the theater kind of bored...a long movie, which got me lost more than a couple of times. A confusing scenario...which is luckily balanced by good actors.

A newly recruited night security guard at the Museum of Natural History discovers that an ancient curse causes the animals and exhibits on display to come to life and wreak havoc
(after imdb.com).
my call: a delightful moment of cinema...time passes by quickly...always a good sign. Some scenes would though have deserved more insight...Toutankhamon speaking the language of Attila...freedom with history goes a bit far.

February 2007
The story of the assassination of U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy, on June 6th, 1968, which centers around 22 people who were at the Ambassador Hotel where he was killed
(after imdb.com).
my call: Some subplots are useless...though quite funny. The LSD scene is a must but has little relevance for the rest of the movie. Two hours is a bit long. However, I came out of the theater quite impressed by the scenario (the powerful personality of Robert Kennedy is greatly transmitted to the audience I thought).

Through the neighborhoods of Paris, love is veiled, revealed, imitated, sucked dry, reinvented and awakened.

my call: A must see. For all people who love, and are loved. Thanks for the suggestion Hanna!

Tragedy strikes a married couple on vacation in the Moroccan desert, touching off an interlocking story involving four different families.
(after imdb.com).
my call: The scenario is well written...the different subplots get nicely into each other....No wonder why civilisations never could get along with each other and probably never will, unfortunately!! It was sometimes weird to listen to Spanish or Japanese and read the....dutch subtitles...:)
