Ranma - A ghost of a thread

Silent as a mouse I creep past my foe.
Waiting for the horror to move.
Unwanted sights that I avoid
I want them to avoid me to!
If I could not be seen I'd be much relieved.
But that is not the case.
That wich I do not want to see
will always go for my face.
Better yet for me not to see them
then I would not become.
Though that would be the worst thing
...for they'd go at my face like a drum.

-Yaaaauugh! That was terrible! I almost thought Akane had been in the kitchen without warning me.

Kasumi sat up quickly, holding her hand over her mouth and eyes wide.

-Nabiki, what are you staring at?

Kasumi looked down at herself. She was sitting on a pair of wet clothes. No, that wasn't exactly right. She was sitting _in_ a pair of wet clothes. No, she was sitting in the floor? (What am I doing sitting an inch below floor-level?) She floated up 'til she was sitting on the clothes.

-Much better! Now I should reheat the food so that we can eat.

She floated into a standing position and frowned.

-So Akane really was here.

Kasumi walked over to the stove and moved as if to pick up a pot that stood on the largest plate. Her hand moved through the pot.

-Oh my.

She moved her hand through the pot again.

-Akane's cooking! She mumbled angrily.

Kasumi raised her arm to open a cupboard that hadn't been wrecked despite the destruction around it and her hand again moved though the object.

-Again!?

She rushed to the sink and franticaly tried to turn the knob for cold water.

--

The corridor was dark, there was no light on anywhere, apparantly. She put her hands on a door. (I wonder where the doorknob is; I can't see it anywhere) The door was blue and shimmered faintly. She yawned and leaned towards it. (God I'm tired) Suddenly the door gave way.

-Yaaah!

She grabbed the doorpost and hung there panting. There was no floor for her to stand on.

-*Huff, puff* I wonder where this leads?

Earlier she had assumed that she was walking in darkness. She had been wrong. Despite not having a light source, the corridor was far less dark than what lay beyond the door. She tried to peer further into the blackness. (There's something moving in there) As she stretched her neck, she began losing her grip on the door frame.

-YAAaaaah! She screamed again as she fell.

--

(This would be much harder if he actually touched the ground) Akane opened the gates to her house and pulled her father inside. She knocked on the door and waited. (Hope they're in there. I have no intention of dragging him anymore)

There was no one to answer. That of course did not mean that there was no one behind the door. When she pushed the door aside, the parrot gave off a surprised squawk; he had put his ear to the door to hear who was on the other side. The fact that he was in the middle of the doorway did not really matter since Akane just ignored him. She walked right over him as if he wasn't there.

-Hello? Where is everybody?

(Great I'm the first home) She walked out, trampling the dizzy parrot on the floor as she did so, and picked up Soun again. She walked back and stood still on top of the parrot, trying to decide where to drop her dad.

--

-Ranma! Get out I'm naked! Aaargh get off me, you pervert.

The chair bounced up and down as Ukyou tried to remove a half-blind duck that tumbled around in her lap. The duck being the duck that it was did not really see in whose lap it was in and Ukyou, having as little on her as she had, did not enjoy the duck's attention. The fact that Ukyou's legs were separated did not really help matters.

Nor did the fact that there were a lot of people seeing her naked.

A tall woman in a white kimono cut off her bonds. Immediately, she threw the bird into a wall.

-Creep.

She stood up and bowed briefly to the woman who had saved her.

-Thank you for saving me...?

The woman offered her a blanket.

-Put this on, dear. I don't want you to catch a cold here. You can wait until we get home for that.

-Thank you misiss...?

She continued prodding for a name, she couldn't remember seeing this woman before.

The woman looked at her with a worried expression.

-Did they do anything to you dear?

-Not that I know of...

-Don't worry, Ukyou, Ranma interjected while grabbing her arm, mom and I will take care of everything once we're home.

Ranma led her gently down the stairs.

-Home? She asked.

-Yeah, our home. Just take it easy and we'll get you there.

-Bweee! Ryo-chan agreed from his perch on Ranma's other arm.

-Our... home?

Ukyou was walking on cloud nine. (Ranma and I live together?) She had completely forgotten about Shampoo--thankfully Cologne hadn't.

--

-GHHD UMPHF MMM!

-Huh? Akane looked down. She was standing on a red doormat.

-UMPH MM! It repeated.

She took two steps forward and turned around.

-You're a parrot?

It flew up and glared straight into her eyes.

-YES! I'm a parrot! You pissin' ninny. Only a blind pig could have been so ignorant of something so freakin' obvious.

Akane lifted her head and sneered disdainfully at him.

-I do not talk to people who insult me.

She turned on a dime and dragged her father farther inside.

-Hey! Get back here you... CATPISS! DOGPOO! JUSENKYO- SPRING!! He screamed at her.

-Be polite. Was all the answer he got.

The tank stretched miles. It should because it housed a very large animal. A dinosaur in fact. It was one of those things with a long neck and fins. You know, constantly called Nessies because of where they live.

The plus side of the tank being so large was that it probably stretched across the whole lab. The down side of it being equally that the tank was so large, you couldn't see the bottom. You couldn't see the sides of it or the end of it. It was like standing on a frozen sea where the horizon was darkness. Occazionaly you could see glimpses of the monster as it swam close to the top of the aquarium. If you made enough sound, you could see more than glimpses.

A girl was standing on the tank and she wasn't very happy. She was lost, as much as she could be in such a huge place. She had short black hair and she was steadily getting more and more angry.

-WHERE IS THE DOOR TO THIS PLACE?

She started stomping her foot on the glass as much in irritation as a means of venting her anger.

-WHERE IS THE EXIT?

A large shadow moved towards her from below the glass. It opened its jaws and raised its speed. The girl continued to stomp her feet in regular intervals.

*Kadunk*

She lost her footing and fell on her bottom. She looked down. There was a huge yellow eye staring at her. The pupil was as big as her head.

-YAAAH! She jumped in fright.

-HEEEEEEELP!

She began running. It didn't matter to where as long as it was a straight line away from the monster. Sooner or later she would hit a wall or something that she could follow to get out.

Ryo-chan snuggled contentedly against one of his "owners". Everything was fine, tonight he'd make sure they both got to bed and, most importantly, to sleep. Tomorrow he'd worry about their mental health.

*growl* His stomach alerted him of its state.

(I better make sure I... We get something to eat before sleep. Maybe I should sleep with Ukyou tonight? She will need the comfort. But Ranko's been acting weird too, I can't leave her alone)

*Growl* The stomach repeated.

(Food first then I decide) He closed his eyes, rested his head on the arm and gave off a sleepy bwee.

Kasumi was steadily geting more agitated as she began realising what had actually happened to her. Her hair was ruffled and her dress looked ready to fall apart. Kasumi herself looked ready to burst with anger, literaly. Her skin was already boiling. Bubbles were created, popped and healed continously, leaving unmarred skin after they'd gone.

She was not a pretty sight. Nor was the kitchen. Less so than before actually because, as Kasumi had tried to pick up each pan and open every cupboard, she had left white slimmy residue behind. Everything was covered in it, except for Nabiki and the "dog".

-YOU! Kasumi screamed and turned towards Nabiki.

-YOU DID THIS TO ME! Her head was a replica of Soun's latest demon-head; this was slightly nauseating since she was a woman and women didn't normaly have mustashes.

Nabiki was sitting on her rump and was looking up at her with an expression that succesfully mixed the slightly sarcastic "who-me?" that she normaly wore, the doe-eyed "I'm-innocent!" and the terrified and shocked expression that she reserved for when she was truly surprised.

-I- I- I...

-Mrff! The dog supplied.

-QUIET! Kasumi lunged herself at Nabiki. Her fingers had become claws as sharp as her filet knife and they were spread out. Nabiki crossed her arms in front of her protectively. Kasumi slashed with her claws and...

...passed though Nabiki as if she wasn't there. The dog just watched on in amazement. Nabiki lowered her arms and shot scared looks around her until she found Kasumi to be behind her. She jumped to and faced her sister.

-Wh-what happened?

--

*Bamm*

-*Huff, puff, wheeze* Where *huff* am I *wheeze* now?

She looked around and found, to her surprise, that she was on a walkway high up. There were no supports. It was only connected to the door she had left. It practicly floated in the air. Not that there seemed to be anything other than air, the walkway and those green wet-looking things that were falling from the ceiling into the nothingness below.

-Where does this lead?

Standing were she was could not be a viable option. It was all to likely that those green "whatever'th'ares" would be harmful to her. She began walking, occasionaly looking down or up when she thought that there might be something to see.

There never was though. Except for those green things that kept falling out of nowhere.

--

Black Thing sniffed the hydrant carefully. Was it the right colour? (Red, as always) Right shape? (Check, there was no mistaking it) Did it smell like a thousand dogs had visited it? (No, more like human perfume. Belonging to a brunette most probably) Black Thing pondered this for a moment. (Must be installed recently, by a woman. I can't remember a hydrant being here before)

He raised his hindleg...

*Wroom*

His target was on the other side of the street. Black Thing backed off and hurried towards the closest tree that he could remember. ("When hydrants walk away, you've been led astray," as Pappy used to say, and I have yet to see a tree move)

On his way to the park he passed three women and their pet. One of the women was naked but he wasn't interested. She was after all, not a dog.

--

-Where is everyone?

Akane left her dad's room swiftly. (I wonder what that parrot was doing there? It almost sounded intelligent) She skipped every second step on the stairs which should look awkward except it didn't, not to her.

-Rwooaargh!

(That came from the kitchen. Wait! Wasn't there some nonsense about a wolf that Ranma's dad had captured? He was talking about a parrot as well... THE WOLF'S IN THE KITCHEN!) Akane ripped the door open and rushed in... side...

(When did Kasumi learn to phase through objects?)

Kasumi was chest-level with the floor and drumming on it with her fingers, her eyes alight with fascination. Nabiki was looking stupidly at the oven while stroking some sort of dog.

-Hi, Akane. Kasumi smiled. She waved shortly with her left hand.

-As soon as I figure out how to touch things again I can reheat the food so that we can eat.

Akanne blinked once. Then she blinked again. Then she smiled. Kasumi sweatdropped; Nabiki was still looking at the oven.

-Don't worry oneechan. I can reheat the food.

Now Nabiki sweatdropped.

--

*Sploof*

-Great. Now I have to walk in it!

One of the green things had fallen on the walkway, covering that section totally. There really was no way around it as it had had "enveloped" that part in front of her. She took a step forward.

*tchlump*

-Why? She asked in a plauged, outdrawn, tone.

Her foot was covered in green, slimy, goo. (I'm having a nightmare. Soon I'll be naked and running from a horde of boys. As long as the tentacles don't show up I'm going to be alright) She took a few more steps forward and paused. (What was that noise?)

*Whiiiiiii*

She looked down.

A thin red thing stretched out from the nothingness below. It was round, looked slightly like a humungous worm and it had a small mouth at the end of it. The girl reckognised it instantly.

-Waaah! Tentacle!

She closed her eyes and started mumbling.

-This is a dream. This is a dream. This is a dream. Please let this be a dream.

When she opened her eyes, she gulped audibly. The tentacle was sloshing about on the floor of the walkway, sucking up all the green goo.

-At least I'm not naked, she sighed. (Oh no! This IS a dream) The girl looked down, terrified of what she might see. Then she blinked. (Well. If I'm not naked and that tentacle is still there...)

She looked up.

The floor was clean. As clean as if Kasumi had cleaned it. The tentacle was hanging in front of her, looking very hungry.

-YAAAaaaaaaa...

She ran back the way she came as fast as she could.

--

Ranma hugged Ryo-chan tigthtly to her bosom and started holding the same pace as her mother. Nodoka wrapped one arm around Ranma and one around Ukyou. Ukyou strained against this but Nodoka didn't let go.

When a bush rustled by the side of the street both girls reacted. Ukyou glared at it and Ranma tensed up when she noticed.

-Ukyou? She asked.

-What!

-Is one of th-them close?

-What are you talking about!? Ukyou growled.

-Ukyou! Nodoka scolded. Girls do not behave in that manner. Apologize please.

-Why should I. I don't know what he's talking about!

A treebranch hanging over the road rustled and released a cat from within its hold. The cat landed on the pavement below, feet down, as all cats should.

-Hssssssss!

Ukyou tore herself from Nodoka's protective arms and flung herself at the cat, which turned tail and ran as fast as its paws could carry it, right into another enemy--a black dog by the name of Black Thing.

( -Ranma, stay with me!
)
( Ranma was lying on the ground bloodied and pale. He looked as
) much like the son Genma used to know as a bloody steak. Genma
( kicked at the cats who still lingered.
)
( -Get away. You've done enough damage!
)
( He threw a few pebbles at them but they still came closer,
) sniffing the smell of fish that the boy had been drenched in.
( Genma's mind clicked.
)
( -DON'T COME NEAR MY BOY!
)
( He slashed at them with his hands, driving them back. He hissed
) at them and they scampered off. When they where out of his sight
( he shuddered. (If they weren't necessary for the Neko-ken
) training I'd have never touched those things) Genma sighed and
( looked down at Ranma. He was now lying on a bed made of thin
) strips of wood. (My own little wild horse. He has to heal now.
( Maybe I should try again with Ukyo. It has to be something in
) the method of the training)
(
) Two yellow eyes opened up on a tear that clung to his cheek.
( They appeared puzzled. Suddenly the tear expanded to cover the
) whole room. When the water retracted, there was another man
( sitting in Genma's place. He was older and thinner but there was
) a definite resemblance.
(
) -Genma. He called.
(
) -Yes! Replied a small pipy voice from the outside.
(
) -I've got a new technique for you to learn. The man said sternly.
(
) A young boy came running through the open door.
(
) -Yaah! Little Genma stopped in front of the man.
(
) -Stand still. The man again, sternly, said.
(
) *blink,blink*
(
) Genma stood entirely still. He had fish tied to his arms and to
( his leg--even a bunch around his waist, though he could still
) move freely. He just couldn't understand why. ("Don't move when
( you're in there boy, or else." What a stupid thing. If I wasn't
) supposed to move why not make it impossible for me) Hundreds of
( eyes opened up around him. (Marvelous) Genma rolled his eyes.
) (Cats! What use is a household pet as a training tool?)
(
) One of the cats sniffed his leg, then licked it and finally,
( took a bite. It didn't actually bite anything off of course but
) it still hurt.
(
) (Now I get it. Fish and hungry cats. Must be an excersise to
( handle pain)
)
( *Fwoosh*
)
( A wave passed through the room.
)
( Genma was standing in the room with the cats for the fifthieth
) time. He was bloody and had sores that hadn't healed since the
( last time. But he still stood there.
)
( The wave passed through again.
)
( Genma was standing in place as always, he had lost count of how
) many times this had happened. The cats moved in. The first one,
( the one who had bitten him the very first time, bit him again.
) Genma didn't move. At a moment's notice, all the other cats
( dog-piled him, biting and clawing to get to their meal before
) someone else took it. Suddenly the pile erupted.
(
) -ENOUGH!
(
) The cats flew all over the place. Where there had been a pile
( once, Genma now stood, alone. He had a corona of yellow light
) surrounding him and a catlike snarl was etched on his face.
(
) -Hsssssssssss!
(
) He flailed around wildly with ki-claws that had grown from his
( hands, striking at as many cats as possible.
)
( *Fwoosh*
)
( Another wave filled the room with water.

-HELP!

She had been caught by the tentacle and as she expected it was roaming around her body, sneaking around inside her dress and nibbling on pieces of her skin. There was just one thing that was wrong with this. She had expected it to do something to her that would render her helpless to its ministrations.

She just hadn't expected it to tickle her.

-Help! Hahahaha. Help mfhfhfhf.

Of course. A tentacle isn't a being in itself* and it didn't really matter how it incapacitated her if its main body could get to there before she had escaped. Which it, in this case, had already done.

Ten meters or so away from the laughing girl a huge red meatclump was approaching with its toungue licking it's teeth.

--
*Unless you live in the world of "Day of the tentacle".
--

The door opened hurriedly and two girls were thrown inside, one naked, one with clothes and a piglet struggling to breath that the latter pressed to her breasts. After which a woman rushed in with a folded blanket and a katana in her hands. She quickly shut the door behind her.

-I'll KILL Genma when he comes back. Then! I will evaluate my son.

She bent down and wrapped the blanket around Ukyou again, kissed the cheek of her daughter and led them both into the dining room by their hands where she seated them at their seats.

-Oh dear. Ranko, have you already eaten?

Slowly, as if waking up from a bad dream, Ranko nodded. Nodoka sighed and hugged her.

-What did Genma do to you to make you act like this?

She looked over at Ukyou who was breathing heavily and glaring at the food as if it had made a personal insult.

-To either of you?

She didn't say anything more. She didn't need too. A tear trickled down Ranko's cheek and she made no move to stop it.

Author's notes:
What, Akane's ooc? Well, she's not really herself at the moment. That is, she can't be if Akane is walking around, can she? Don't worry, I'm only out to confuse you.

I have taken the liberty of inviting someone very special this time. He comes from a "manga" that hasn't been "released" yet. In fact it's so new that the author is unsure of what to name him.

Welcome snowy.

-I prefered Fuyuki actually.

Alright snowflake. I'll call you winter but if Awe Gahn wants to change it again...

-*Snort* I think Fuyuki will do nicely thank you!

I don't know, I kind of liked "baby of snow".

-Plain Fuyuki is perfect and it's a LOT better than Dewin or Awe.

Maybe you should be called Awe then. Ne, Fuyuki?

-So I can relate to Keichi, so what! Why was I brought here anyway!

You were supposed to state the disclaimer and say something funny.

-Okay...
