FAQs

SKULLThese questions are general in nature, and have not been addressed to me in particular. They are some of the more common questions about the afterlife that people seem to want answers for. The answers are in my own words, based on what I know from my short time here so far.

If you have something you would like to know about that is not addressed on this page, you can submit your questions to me through the form on the Mailbox page. You will also find answers to more questions there.

Question: Is there one true religion?
Answer: Thankfully, no. Although there are many Atheists who, when they arrive here, are forced to modify their belief systems a bit.

Question: Is there a devil or Satan?
Answer: As I understand it, there does not seem to be an individual person or soul that you might think of as Satan. You may find some comfort in that, but don't be lulled into a false sense of security. There is certainly evil that exists in the hearts and minds of individuals, and there are what you might think of as "dark forces" that can exert a powerful pull on someone without the strength of will or the enlightenment to overcome such phenomena. The evil that exists within some individuals can be as frightening as anything you might attribute to the devil.

Question: Is there sex in the afterlife?
Answer: Yes, but it's not as messy and there are no harmful side effects.

Question: What happens in the afterlife to people who commit suicide?
Answer: Jeez, can you possibly think up a more grim and depressing question than that? Let's try to keep it a little lighter, can we? But since this is a common concern among those who are still living, especially when a loved one has taken his/her own life, I will answer your question to the best of my ability. Just as this is a very serious topic where you are, so it is here. I'm not directly involved with the process of integrating those souls into the afterlife, but I can tell you that it is a difficult process for both the individuals who have taken their own lives, as well as for those souls on this side that are helping them with their awakening into the afterlife. Let me just say that people who commit suicide are often surprised to find that they have not extinguished their life force, when they "wake up" over here. From what I understand, it's a little bit like waking up with a very bad hangover and having some vague memory of some horribly stupid thing you did the night before and feeling terribly remorseful about the fact that you can't turn back the clock.

Question: Is there such a thing as reincarnation?
Answer: You know, I can't seem to get a straight answer to that question either. The answer depends on who you ask. Please understand that just because I'm dead doesn't mean I know everything. The best answer that I got to that question was from one old soul who told me that, to the extent that we are all part of the same life force, then, yes there is reincarnation. We are all connected on a deep level to one another, and to every living thing in the Universe. So, to that extent, if you think you lived in Southeast Asia 300 years ago, then maybe some part of you did, or some part of you is in touch with someone who did.

Question: Is there a hell?
Answer: Yeah, it's called Fresno, California...oops...just kidding! I should worry about angry E-mail, but I don't think anyone in Fresno owns a computer...Hell is a state of mind, my friend, and it exists here just as it does where you are.

Question: How do you communicate with one another in the afterlife? Is it through telepathy?
Answer: Well, we sure as hell don't have any vocal chords.

Question: What will it take to rescue Apple computer?
Answer: The return of Steve Jobs.

Question:How similar is the afterlife to being alive in a physical world?
Answer: Well, it seems that you have a lot more options here. There is sort of a plane of existence here, for lack of a better word, that is very real, very concrete, much like life on earth. There are also many other realities here to explore, and one becomes aware of the infinite nature of the soul and the universe.

That's probably the biggest difference. It is much more than what you experience in your current physical reality, but most people, when they're alive, still have some awareness of their spiritual connection to something much more infinite. The difference is, by its very nature, your life on earth is more preoccupied with matters of caring for your physical and psychological needs and spiritual matters are secondary. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just where you happen to be right now.

When most people first pass over, the reality they experience is initially very similar to being alive. As they gradually gain an awareness of where they are and what's happening to them, they become more free to explore those other realities. That has been my experience so far, and that's the way it works for most folks as I understand it.

Question: Will I still retain the essence of my personality in the afterlife or do I become something quite different?
Answer: The simple answer to that is yes, you do retain your personality- it is a part of what you are. However, while you are alive, your personality often seems to comprise a significant majority of your being. It often seems like your personality IS who you are. As you grow in your awareness, though, you begin to realize that your personality is really a PART of you, it is not YOU. You are much more complex than that. Does that make any sense?

Question: What is the sound of one hand clapping?
Answer:

Question: Do loved ones reunite in the spirit world?
Answer: Yes, of course.

Question: Does existence in the hereafter give you insight into the future?
Answer: If you're asking me who to put your money on for this year's Super Bowl, I can't tell you that, although there may be some souls here who are capable of seeing the outcome. You see, there is no concept of time here, as you know it. We're not waiting for the earth to rotate another revolution so we can wake up and flip another page on the calender. Time doesn't really pass here, and time isn't marked. Everything relates to our development along certain pathways, and we either progress or we regress.

People's lives do occur in a chronological sequence, however. Those of us in the spirit world are aware of the passing of time on earth, but days on the calender and hours on a clock are less relevant than the progress and passing of peoples lives. Their bodies grow older, they have children, they make mistakes, they learn, and so forth. The ability to "see into the future" is not so much a technique of looking ahead into time as it is an ability to know about the chronological pathways of people's lives.

As one grows spiritually in the afterlife, one gains a greater understanding of the bigger picture and sees many things differently than one does on earth. To that extent, a being in the spirit world has certain advantages that he or she did not have on earth, and some of those advantages have to do with just knowing certain things. It's a different, broader perspective that we can only occasionally glimpse on the earth plane.

Let me give you an example: As a parent, or any adult, who observes a child growing up, you may become aware of certain tendencies in that child's behavior that foreshadow what kind of adult that person will grow up to be. As an adult yourself, having been a child at one time, you can predict certain things about the outcome of that person's life as you watch them age. The longer you know them, the more accurately you can do this. The child, however, doesn't have the same advantage of your adult viewpoint. You might have known that the child would get into a car accident within 6 months of getting his driver's license, but the child didn't know it until it happened. That's a simplistic example, but perhaps you can extrapolate my meaning.

Question: Who really killed JFK? Was there a second gunman?
Answer: How the hell should I know? I think you've confused me with Oliver Stone. If I knew the answer to that I'd write a book instead of playing around with some stupid web page.

Question: Why did God create_____? (Insert one of the following: Ants, Flys, Spiders, Mosquitos, Lawyers, etc...)
Answer: This is one of those questions that your mother probably answered for you when you were very young, and you know what? I have all the insight of a dead person, and I probably can't improve on the answer your mother gave you. All that stuff about all of God's creatures having their place in the great scheme of things, along with your biology teacher's explanation about ecosystems is all true. Nobody has yet been able to explain the part about the lawyers, however.
