Cow Tipping -- Fact or Fiction? Many people have spoken of the urban legend of cow tipping. Some have even said that it would be highly unlikely that a group of drunk fraternity boys could get the force, aim, and coherence together to knock over one those large beasts. However, let me assure you that cow tipping is very real, and very dangerous.
Last year, over 10,000 cow tippings were reported across the United States. With 42% of them happening in the Central Valley of California. Of these incidents, only 3.4% of them actually saw the "tippers" and less than 1/10th of those were caught.
"Cow tipping is very traumatic for cows," says Dr. Milka Magnetia. "Imagine yourself standing there, chewing your cud, minding your own business, then WHAM!!!! you've been knocked off of your feet unexpectedly. You'd be upset, wouldn't you?" Dr. Magnetia has authored a book: Cow Tipping: It's causes and cures. The book illustrates the damage to the milk carried by the cow, and to the cows delicate mental balance.
"Cows are naturally nervous animals. They stand all day in the middle of fields, in barns, and at the drag races. They lead rather boring lives. When something like this happens, it really can cause serious nervous conditions which can lead to hypertension, heart attack, and spilled milk."
When asked what defenses a cow has against tippers, Dr. Magnetia said, "Well, none, really. It's rather unfortunate."
Many law enforcement agencies have attempted to stop 'tipping from happening, but as this is a rather random event, it is very difficult to catch anyone in the act.
Mrs. Ima Muer, owner of the "BurgerMeister" dairy in Wakadoo, California, claims that she lost her brother in a cow tipping accident.
"It was the most bizarre thing you ever did see," says Mrs. Muer. "Billy Jean Bob Joseph was goin out to irrigate the pasture one night when he heard this strange noise. Kinda like 1200 pounds of hamburger was dropped into the mud. Well, he runs on out to see what was a-goin on when he sees five of the cows hiding in the trees. You see the cows musta been a-scared of the tippers out there so they hid up in the trees. Well when Billy Jean Bob Joseph tried to calm them down, one of them slipped on some mistletoe growing in the tree and came fallin out of the tree right on to poor old Billy Jean Bob Joseph. Funny thing about it was that old Billy Jean Bob Joseph said he'd be done with everything the day he saw a cow fly."
Investigators are still looking for the suspects in this incident.
As you can see, this is a terrible tragedy for the cows and dairy owners alike. For more information, or to help stop this travesty call us at "1-800-TIP-A-COW" or visit us on the web at http://www.helpacow.org
