The Selected Poetic Works of S. Michael Gibson |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Okay there's been a change or two with this page. No longer are all the poems on this page. Why? first I felt it time for a little change and second I thought it might be easier to find poems in the long run this way. I've included a little introduction and personal reflection of each of them here and just click the link to view the poem. Please feel free to post comments about them on the message board, I look forward to recieving some constructive criticism so that I can become an overall better writer.
O Wistful Lover | Still The Water Lies
I wrote this one day my senior year, I'm not exactly sure why, but we were probably studying British Poetry in class that day and I felt inspired. It always seemed to me that I was the wistful lover, but once I got to college and met Janelle, I discovered that she is more worthy of that title. As it is, this is my favorite work that I have done thus far. A couple others come close, but this one takes the cake.
I'm not sure what exactly prompted me to write this one. This one was written in my senior year of high school where I submitted it to the literary magazine, Expressions. I can remember being a little self conscious about it when I turned it in (and then later reviewed it for publication as a member of the magazine staff), but in the end it made. Now as I look back on it, I think, hey, this wasn't too bad.
The End of Death | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Only You Can Bring | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This is the result of me trying really hard to be poetic my freshman year of college. I eventually just started writing and saw where it took me, eventually it led to this and "To My True Love." Basically it has ties with the end of the world, the apocalypse where God casts out Satan and he no longer has any power over us, and there is no more death and suffering. It's your basic short tale of good vs. evil.
I wrote this my freshmen year of college, feeling rather inspired after a Chi Alpha bible study session. At the end of the session, I saw people praying, face down on the floor. I was touched. I did not follow however because I felt that in my mind for me to do it at that point would not be honest or because I felt in my heart I had to, but rather it would be for myself, so others could see me doing and thinking me more holy because of it.
To My True Love | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Prison of Love | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Not my greatest work, nor anything becoming the woman this is to. As the title says, it's to my true love, whom I've yet to meet. I just began writing a line of poetry and eventually broke it up like it appears here. Rather cliched, but it still appears her. | This was written the same day and on the same sheet as "O wistful lover." I remember writing this one at lunch and we had joked about the dedication. Well I finally found a good person to dedicate it to, it's another poem about love and of course God's healing grace.
Dan, The Man Who Lived In A Can
Rain from the Heav'ns | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
I wrote this my junior year of high school while bored out of my mind at work. I remember looking out the front window, watching the sky and then just coming up with this almost out of no where, like os many of my poems, this just came to my, it has no rhythm or rhyme nor did I feel it needed any when I wrote it. It talks of end times and rain coming from the Heavens, finally ending with God's reign on Earth as foretold in the Revelation of John. Hope you enjoy!
