my travels & adventures
I find this planet and the people on it to be a fascinating place. My Sagittarian tendencies have taken me to some pretty interesting places. Of course I wish I had gone more places, but I've fulfilled a few dreams and am currently living one dream: the opportunity to live in another country for awhile.

I returned to Bangkok, Thailand to teach English as of January 2003. I will be here with my husband another few years or so. Then, if all goes as planned, we will return to the Bay Area, California, to live on a permanent basis.

In April 2002 I spent a week in Cambodia and saw Angkor Wat, truly a world wonder. It is the largest Hindu temple complex in the world and is the embodiment of the word 'exotic'.

During my stay in Thailand, I have gotten to go on visa runs to Vientiane, Laos, Penang, Malaysia, and to Singapore.

From March 31 - May 10, 2001 I was in Nepal. I went on the Annapurna Circuit and it took me 19 days. I went over the highest mountain pass in the world -- over 17,000 feet!

From December 2000 to January 2001, I was in India. I spent five weeks there in Bangalore, Mysore, up north to New Delhi and into Rishikesh, where I spent two weeks in a yoga retreat. On the way back to Bangalore I stopped in Agra to see the Taj Mahal. You can't go to India without seeing the Taj!

In 1999 I fulfilled a life-long dream and went to Egypt. Egypt has fascinated me since I was a little girl and this was my first time abroad, so of course Egypt was my choice!  If you would like to know more about my Egyptian adventure, as well as links to my favorite Egypt websites, please visit my Egypt page.

Here are most of my favorite travel and culture pages:

Lonely Planet Online: Very informative site that is based on the information on it's travel guides. I have gotten the best information from their Thorn Tree BBS.

The Great Out There: Sean Connolly's solo World Tour Travelogue. This is absolutely one of the BEST travelogues I have come across on the web. Extremely informative for travelers.

World Wander: This website is about a couple who spent a year traveling abroad. They went to many countries and took a huge number of photos along with an extensive photo album.

Nevada Wier: Nevada Wier is an internationally acclaimed photographer who specializes in photographing remote corners of the globe. Her written articles are fascinating and her pictures are stunning!

Steve McCurry: This is one of my most favorite travel photographers. He is best known for his work for National Geographic, particularly his famous photo of the Afgan Girl.

Around the World Traveler recommended websites. Everything from airline ticket consolidators and visa information to foreign language help and travelogues.

Art of Travel Presents: How to See the World. This is perhaps the best advice online book I have ever come across for budget/backpacking foreign travel.

Adventure Center: Inexpensive world wide adventure travel company with a wide variety of itineraries. If I were going to go on a tour with a company, then this would be the company I would choose.

The Rec.Travel Library -- Personal travelogues, trip reports, and worldwide tourist information. A very rich source of information, I especially enjoy the page on Around the World Online Travelogues.

Currency Converter -- FXConverter™: 164 Currency Converter is Web's most popular multi-lingual Foreign Exchange Calculator to-date. It features a handy cut-out wallet-sized "cheat sheet" for quick reference.
