THE Column from Rameses III's
Temple -- Karnak
This is THE Column, framed in the entryway
to the Temples of Rameses III, which is between the first and
second pylons.
One thing to keep in mind: Rome wasn't built
in a day, and these sorts of temples weren't all done at once,
either. There are several different features and temples which
bear the names of different Pharaohs from Egypt's long history.
The Pharaohs went out of their way to make as many monuments
and structures to themselves as they could, sometimes defacing
the monuments of previous rulers with their own cartouches.
So, in Karnak, you'll have the Temples of
Rameses III, the Obelisks of Thutmosis III, the Shrine of Seti
II and all kinds of other do-dads from folks you've probably
never heard of before.
