Now that that's out of my system I can go on.
Very very good episode. One of the best of the season, I think. This is the one that I show people (and get them hooked) when they ask 'What's Stargate SG-1?'. Yes, I first have to explain a bajillion things to them, but it's still got enough of all things Sci-fi that anyone can be happy. Alternate realities, evil alien attacks, neat SFX's, a blond with a bomb, etc.
The good thing about having an alternate reality is that they can basically (and do) kill off every main character (except for Daniel...but they manage to pound him pretty well near the end there anyway). We see Hammond, Chevron guy, and many nameless airmen meeting a fiery Jaffa-blast death. Teal'c kills Jack. Sam kills herself. And a bomb kills every living thing within a 5000 mile radius. So that's not very good. But it's an alternate reality so I guess it's not really so bad.
There were also many other subtle our reality/their reality differences in this episode, such as it being the SGA not the SGC. There were also some very obvious differences, such as Daniel not being invovled in the SGC at all, or Jack being a General, or Teal'c having hair (did I alreay cover that? I'm sure I did, but it was just so plain bizarre when I first saw this episode that I feel the need to mention it a second time).
The ending is somewhat predictable. We *know* that Daniel is going to escape. He *has* to escape. There's no question about that. What we want to know is *how*. Did Teal'c let Daniel go on purpose? Well, that is really for you to decide. He did eventually shoot Daniel. But there was that pause. I don't know. I don't really even know why I'm bothering to cover this. Let's move on.
Anyway, eventually Daniel got back to his own reality. Yay. And hence starts the first episode of a four episode arc.
