Politics was really nothing more than an episode in which they show what has happened in every other episode prior to this one. These types of episodes have names, but it eludes me at the moment. Maybe they’re just called “Episodes in which they show what has happened in every other episode prior to this one”. They really are pointless episodes, but I suppose they play on the fact that if non fans of the show are ever going to watch Stargate, it is going to be exactly on the day that an episode such as this one airs. I guess there must be some unspoken mathematical law about that. It’s either that, or the writers were just running out of ideas before the big CLIFFHANGER (aaaaaah!) is shown.
Anyway, so there isn’t much to comment on this episode, since 70% was material that had been already covered. I liked Daniel’s little slip on what he thought the senator *really* was. The plot of the episode was fairly good too, although when are we going to see more of the economic-minded troupe? Has SG-1 brought anything back that will save the world yet (I suppose that depends on when you’re reading this review, but at the time I’m writing it the answer is no!). The excuse for “an episode in which they show what has happened in every other episode prior to this one” was a good one, and cleverly hidden.
Although some of the clips did go on for too long, I felt, and weren’t really essential to the point that was being conveyed. The senator himself was alright right until the end, where he started getting all these notions about “God will save us!!” and all that, and he was two notches away from becoming one of those TV Evangelists. Okay, maybe he was not that bad. But I like to think of him as an out-of-work TV Evangelist. And so what job did they give him? A job in politics.
