As the girl of 17 years of age stood in front of the door with the elaborately
painted black iris on the front of it, she knew this was where she belonged.
She could feel the danger radiating from behind it, she now understood why
she had come. Her name was Frost Santer, and she never had felt like she
truly belonged. Her life as a whole was just like every young lady's should
be. She had lived in a normal, quiet town, had a peaceful, happy family,
and had had ordinary girlfriends witch she had met in kindergarten and stuck
with until her junior year of high school. She acted normal, but never could
quite grasp why people acted the way they did. Never trying to help others
in trouble if they were strangers, just because they might risk hurting
themselves. But never did she let it show, until that one night.
On a cold, foggy, dreary, October night she was driving home from a drama
convention in the not so close city of Los Angeles. A car seemed to be trailing
her, but that wasn't worried so much about that as she was the fearful cries
coming from the alley to the right of her. She was known for her bravery,
and always eager to help a person in need, so she automatically took a swift
turn into the dark alleyway that held the producer of the cries. The car
that was following her turned into the alley only minutes after her. "Oh
well," she thought. Someone needed help and she was going to give it
to them. She locked her car and jogged over to a dumpster to hide behind
it in case she needed to surprise them. And then she saw it. It was a man,
and he was bent over a girl, his eyes shining like mercury. Frost squinted,
he was, no he couldn't be, vampires didn't exist! she thought. "Hey
get away from her!" she cried, springing into action. She ran towards
the, the thing, an since he was taking no head of her warnings she steadied
herself for a flying side kick and took aim. Now she knew why she had taken
those karate lessons! But before her heel could intercept with the man's
solarplexus, she felt herself flying backwards. He had caught her heel and
propelled her away from him! Frost landed hard. She felt as if she had broken
her right shoulder, which she had landed directly on. She tried to stand
up but the immense pain all over her body forced her back down. Behind her
she heard a car door slamming and footsteps approaching her quickly. She
knew that she was on the verge of blacking out from the pain that consumed
her every thought. The very last things to cross her mind before becoming
completely unconscious were "Is the girl OK?" and "Why did
I forget about that blasted car following me?"
Frost awoke in what appeared to be a basement. It was dimly lighted and
smelled dank. Her shoulder strangely, felt fine. And she could see better,
clearer, as if everything had just now come into focus. She heard a mouse
scurry across the cool cement floor, even though it seemed to be all the
way at the other end of the large room. But oddest of all, she felt, hungry,
but not as if she wanted food, this was different. She shrugged the feeling
away and got up to find a way out of this place. She had to find that poor
girl, but more importantly that vampire and make him pay for what he had
done. Before she reached the door, a man stepped out of the shadows. "Not
so fast, your still too weak to be out on your own," he said. "What?
I feel fine. Besides I have to find that girl and that monster who tried
to kill her." "She will be fine and the man is far gone. Here,
drink this. It will help you grow strong." The man handed Frost a silver
goblet with a red liquid in it. Before questioning it, she examined the
stranger. He had brown hair with blonde highlights and it had a sort of
wave to it, he had dark brown eyes and wore all black. She took a sip of
the drink, feeling too thirsty to refuse it. In seconds she found herself
gulping it down and wanting more. Her hunger was satisfied. "Could
I have some more of that, if its not too much trouble?" Frost asked
meekly. "Later," he responded, "sleep." And she did
before she even knew it in fact.
A long while later she awoke and the man wasn't there to give her the drink.
So, she left to find some on her own. The first step was to find her car.
The basement led to a run down building with nothing of interest in it.
She walked outside, into the darkness of an unfamiliar alley. She smelt
everything around her. The leftovers in the the fast-food restaurant nearby,
the trash in the dumpsters. A girl standing by the corner. She felt a rush
of adrenaline and out of nowhere found herself at the girl's neck. She felt
her fangs come out and she bit her neck and drank deeply. The girl was now
limp. She stopped and let the girl drop to the ground. Frost was now afraid
of what she could do, without thinking she ran lightning fast to another
adjoining alleyway. Frost was scared. She knew the truth now. She was just
like that monster who had hurt the girl. She tried to reason with herself.
Maybe there was a way to be changed back she thought. Or, maybe it had some
advantages. Well she would just have to find out. As soon as she found her
car she decided it was best to find someone who could tell her about her
new powers as an immortal. Namely the man. But if he was not easy to get
in touch with she would have to settle for the first person that was of
her kind. She wasn't quite sure she like being like that monster she had
first encountered. She would still make him pay. She began her search for
her car once more and looked through all of the streets. She stopped at
a house and looked at the window and examined her reflection. Her hair still
frosty white and down to her waist as always. Her slender body and skin
still pale like usual. But her eyes may have looked like normal, pale blue
so light that when the light shined on them they looked like icicles, were
more piercing, sharper. She used her left had to move her hair out of her
face, and noticed to her surprise a ring with a silver band and a black
dahlia entwined wit a black rose. She tried to pull it off, but found it
quite stuck. Frost remembered that she had more important things to worry
about, so she tried to forget about the ring and continued her search for
her car.
