James Marsters plays Spike. A mean vampire who already has the deaths of two slayers on his credit. Once known as William, the Bloody, Spike was named for his vicious tactics of killing with railroad spikes. Throughout the second season, we have seen him go through many struggles, especially with his love, Drusilla.
When Spike and Drusilla first entered the Buffy scene, Drusilla was weak after an attack by an angry mob. Spike's purpose for moving to Sunnydale was to make her strong. While trying to restore her strength and kill her sire, Angel, Buffy came in to ruin the fun. Drusilla however, was restored to full power, but Spike was crushed under a large organ.
The organ acident left Spike in a wheelchair with a scared face. Drusilla, now strong has the intentions to take over the world. When Angel reverted back to the evil Angelus, he slowly took Drusilla away from a defenseless Spike. In Becoming (the season finale two-parter) Spike joined forces with Buffy to keep Angel from sucking the world into Hell. He revealed to Dru and Angel that he could walk by beating Angel with a crowbar. While Buffy and Angel fought, Spike took off with Drusilla and drove away from Sunnydale.
