There was in some legal and writers circles the temptation to use the word Cyberpunk to describe the criminals whose crimes involved computers. These people who wrote these books said, they were exploring a new type of crime. In fact, the characters in Cyberpunk novels were drug abusers and in some senses also used the futuristic computers to commit crimes such as theft of data. But the criminals described as Cyberpunks were in fact, computer users and often were not committing obvious crimes such as stealing computer hardware but were using the NET to access files and data that were considered by the creators of the files to be private files. So more than theft the computer criminals were committing invasions of privacy. The characters in the novels did this as well but the experience of using the computer and the NET was made to seem very dramatic.
