You might be asking yourself that very question right now. What exactly is a kender? If you do not know, then you are a deprived individual. So click on the different titles to take you to what you wish to know about this dear race.
The Kender race is out of a little known series of books called DragonLance. If you haven't ever heard of DragonLance, then you need to be flogged severely and hung up by your toenails. Furthermore, if you know the books, but just do not like them, the same needs to be done as well. Anywho, Kenders are a race of people with in the books that bring joy and comic relief to the usually serious plots. To find out more about their creation with in the books keep scrolling down to How Kenders were made.
Hiddukel (a god in the stories) convinced Reorx (another god in the stories) to make a gem in the image of Krynn. Then Reorx accidentally filled the gem (the Greygem) with the essence of Chaos (the father of the gods) and was tricked into releasing it into Krynn. Gnomes, which were a creation of Reorx as well, were fascinated by the gem and so sought it out. A while after the Greygem was released, Lord Gargath used two magical stones, along with wild magic to draw and capture the Greygem. When the Gnomes arrived and demanded the Greygem, Gargath refused. The Gnomes wanting the gem, laid siege to Garath's castle in an attempt to take it. After 3 attempts the Greygem was freed from its magical prison. The Gnomes inside Garath's castle began to split in ideas. One group, being curious, wanted to crack open the gem to find out what was inside. The others wanted to hoard the gem, keeping it for its value. Being of split minds another battle ensued, this time gnome against gnome. During the battle the Greygem let off a blinding light then disappeared. The battle soon dissipated and when the once gnomes looked upon one another they were no longer gnomes. The curious gnomes were transformed into Kenders and the greedy gnomes were turned into Dwarves. The Gnomes that lay outside the castle stayed in their original forms. Thus Kenders were born into Krynn and have been making their mark on the world ever since. If you are still confused, you probably just need to read the books because they can explain it allot better than I can. If you want to know more about kenders keep scrolling down to About Kenders.
A few words that can describe Kenders are: Carefree, fun loving, curious, innocent, childlike, fearless, irrepressible, independent, and compassionate. Most of all they are NOT thieves!!!!! Kenders have no concept of ownership, nor do they have any concept of time. Being such, you should never leave something out you wish to keep and you should never wait on a kender because they may never show up. They have a furious wanderlust mixed with curiosity which carries them far from where they were suppose to be going, and they also have a very short term memory. It is no wonder they are so unpopular among merchants and others who are not as free with their belongings. So if you do happen to find something that is yours on a kender, merely ask for the possession back and it should not surprise you to hear any or all of the following statements after you do:
So if you do come across one of these wonderful creatures treat them with respect and love and they will show the same to you. If not, then you bring their wrath upon your head!
