This is the results of my research so far. As I learn more, I will add it

The name "Troll" is often used to mean all mythical creatures. Also, Trolls are often grouped within the name of "fairy folk". This makes it rather difficult to research them. I found myself often trying to separate stories about Trolls from those about Dwarves. Often information about Trolls is in Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish. I find I am learning much of these languages in my efforts to find information.

Trolls are commonly huge and grotesque. They are very ugly and may have long pointy noses. They may have only one eye in the middle of the forehead (this type of troll may in fact be a Cyclops). Very often they have three or more heads. They are strong but rather dumb and are easily outwitted.

Some of the common abilities of Trolls are : invisibility (this is usually due to a cap or cloak), shapechanging, clairvoyance, and the ability to confer or remove prosperity to a person or family.

Trolls hate the Christian faiths. Church bells are either very annoying or fatal (depends on the story) to them. They will often throw large boulders at churchs. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your view) they have rather bad aim, and rarely manage to hit the church.

Trolls also hate sunlight. It is fatal to them and turns them to stone. This is why, they live in caves, usually deep in a forest.

Trolls are solitary creatures. They do not like other creatures and rarely seek out others. There are some Trolls, usually thought to be evil even by their own kind, who seek out and try to lure humans to them. Those unfortunate enough to be lured are then eaten.
