It has been two years since the supposed explosion
of the keep. Gringito disappeared via an underground river, leaving the
guild to question Bob.
Bob went into isolation soon after Gringito
left, only coming out to catch the months' dinner. Only today was different,
and Bob was the only one who knew why. You see Gringito was coming back
today and only Bob knew.
I woke up that morning to the sound of the
guilds' sirens sounding, apparently a foreign vessel was approaching the
guild's landing ,without permission. I remembere what he had told me. So
I got dressed quickly and went to see what the fuss was about.
I got to the beach where everyone was and
saw the giant vessel approaching. The captain of the vessel signaled the
beach with a mirror.
"Greetings... all... may... I... land..."
All the guild had gathered at the beach, they
had no idea what he had signaled. Lothar spotted me up on a rock and asked
me what he had signaled but I ignored him and asked Jamethiel if he could
land.
"Jamethiel! He requests permission to land,
may he?"
"No! I don't even know who it is! If you can
find out who it is , maybe."
I signaled back to the vessel
"Traveler... what... is... your... name..."
"G...R...I...N...G...I..."
I didn't wait for him to finish and signaled
back,
"Welcome... home... land... at... full...
speed... strong... winds... here..."
"Bob, he's moving faster!" Jamethiel cried
out.
"Not to worry, he is not dangerous. He wil
be here momentarily."
The vessel appeared to have three pontoons
and a large mast with a flurry of gray sails.
"It's a Katamaran!" I yelled to the group.
As the vessel closed in it was visible. Three
pontoons; the center being the largest, probably the quarters, the right
is for stabilityand slightly smaller than the middle. The left was only
for stability.
The boat zig- zagged its way into the beach,
each time the turn was made it appeared that there was a platform that
spanned the three pontoons with a net below. The sternsman looked as though
he was using peddles to steer.
The sails soon filled up as they caught the
strong winds, sending it full speed on to the beach. The group ran for
cover as the boat hit the beach, spraying sand and water all over. After
a few minutes Jamethiel got out from behind Forzan.
"Stanger! You have violated our water! You
had better have a damn good reason or you'll be killed!"
"Gee, I love you to! You can't say you don't
remember me!," Gringito said jumping out of the boat, "I've decided to
come back."
He looked over and saw me leaning against
the rock
"Hey Lothar who' s the stranger who signaled
back?"
"Gringito that' s no stranger. . . "
"I've never seen him before." Gringito interrupted.
"Gringito, that's Bob." Lothar finished.
Gringito approached me with a look of disbelief.
"Bob?"
"Good to see ya again Gringito, How was the
orient?"
"Bob? Wha- what the hell happened to you?!"
I explained to him, and most of the
other guild members, who hadn't seen me for those two years.
"Well how's the keep?" Gringito asked
"The keep was destroyed Gringito." Lothar
said
"The keep's fine and still functioning, I
cleaned it out after you left. I stayed in my lair so as not to mess it
up."
"You mean the keep wasn't destroyed? It's
still there?!" Jamethiel asked.
"Yeah but only my entrance still exists."
I answered.
That night there was a large party at the
guildhouse. Gringito spent most of his evening explaining why he went.
"I went because I felt lost, I didn't feel
like there was really anything worth being here for. So I faked
the explosion of the keep and left it to Bob. I retreated to the orient
to try to find reasons. Now I consider myself found."
After the party Gringito and I went to my
lair instead of the keep, because we were being followed. I took him the
long way home. but when we finally arrived he was amazed at my lair. He
was even more amazed at the tunnel I had dug.
"You say this goes all the way to the keep?"
"No, I'm afraid that if I dig a tunnel all
the way to the keep, people will use it just to get in there. Besides there
are quite a few detours that go to other portions of the lair."
"Like where?"
I took him for a tour of my lair, pointing
out the important things like one of the stone griffins, a sword, one of
the enlisted men's skulls.
"Did you ever use the keep?"
"Yeah but only to get myself started. Then
I used it only to retreat to if I were angry or if I needed food."
"So what do you plan to do for the rest of
the time?"
"Well, Durrack offered me a pretty good deal.
I might just take it and when I'm done there I' ll probably come back."
"Wait!, You're going to work for Durrack?"
"Yeah, what's it to you?"
"When are you leaving?"
"When the time is right, but it's not right
yet."
"Will you give me some warning before you
go?"
"Sure"
Gringito and I went to sleep that evening
with joy for seeing each other again and discomfort in knowing that we'd
soon part again.
The next day I cooked a giant breakfast at
the keep. I went and got Gringito and served him breakfast. I sat at the
head of the large marble table in the great hall. Gringito stared at me.
"Sorry, I got used to not having you around."
"Understood, Move!"
Gringito and I ate our breakfast there that
morning. I started talking to Gringito.
"When was the last time a conversaton could
be held here without having to talk over the yelling, belching, farting,
and laughing enlisted men?"
"WHAT, I CAN' T HEAR YOU IT' S TOO LOUD!!"
The two of them burst out laughing.
"I don' t remember the last time it was this
quiet here."
