Henriksen didn't like the school his parents made him join and at the age of 12, so he hit the road - he ran away. The result: He spend so many days in prison that all added together, it would probably have taken one whole year. He also was illiterate until he was in his thirties. He learned to read by studying screenplays.
He acted in his first movie when he was 16 years old. It was a Lee Marvin movie.
Henriksen can´t be described as being good looking so the hero roles wasn´t given to him. Instead he portrayed killers and other nasties. His break through came with the move "The Right Stuff" where he acted as astronaut Wally Schirra.
Henriksen is a fairly 'artsy' person. He has done many ceramic murals and he also paints and writes.
