Special Agent Carla Stonecypher is the overenthusiatic partner of Special Agent Michael Kinsley. Agents Mulder and Scully encountered the infectiously annoying pair while sharing a ride to an FBI creative team seminar. Fortunately for Mulder,those plans are sidetracked when the agents encounter a roadblock on the highway. Agents Stoncypher and Kinsley later rescue Scully and Mulder from the mothmen's underground lair.

While examining the latest victim of apparent vampirish murder, the agents meet Sheriff Hartwell, whom Scully believes is irresistible and Mulder views as a country bumpkin. Mulder and Hartwell have numerous adventures in a graveyard and with a runaway R.V. while Scully conducts an autopsy on the victim. Scully deduces the murderer's identity and arrives in time to rescue Agent Mulder. In a drugged stupor, Mulder stakes the killer. While Skinner investigates Mulder's use of excessive force on the murder suspect, the body seemingly gets up and walks away, after attacking the mortuary attendant. Mulder and Scully again request Hartwell's assistance. While Mulder searches the killer's residence, Scully and Hartwell become acquainted over a cup of coffee. Unfortunately for Scully, Hartwell is protecting a "special" group of people and is unwilling to allow Mulder and Scully to harm them.

When a law enforcement agent is forced to shoot a murder suspect, the man dies speaking the name, "Mulder". Seeking answers about his connection to this mysterious man, Agent Mulder visits the less than enthusiastic Agent Arthur Dales. Dales recounts a story of his own run-in with an X-File which had secret connections to Fox's father, William Mulder. Dales investigated a series of crimes wherein victims were found "drained" of all internal matter, leaving nothing but shriveled husks. Fighting the corruption of the F.B.I. and the State Department, where he met William Mulder, Dales uncovered a secret government experiment to mutate humans with animals.
