A being, more than human, follows his destiny to complete a quest he must confront every 1300 years... Grey has walked the earth for more than 10,000 years. His mission, preordained and unqestionable in his mind, has been to ensure the continuation of the race, most promising of self sustainability. Every thousand years, however, the longevity of the human race, which has become that most promising race, is threatened by a gene, dormant in every human being. The biological time-bomb is awakened in one person; that person then, is no longer human, he is the Groadie. The Groadie, as long-lived as Grey, has taken many appearances over time -- myths about dragons and giant sea serpents, are none other than such manifestations. As the reapearance of the Groadie grows near, once again, Grey finds himself defending humanity in a manner he has never before had to. The human race has developed vast technologies, they are capable of flying around the world; they have developed weapons of mass destruction. The Groadie last appeared 1300 years from the start of the story, the event is now, considered by many to be the birth of Christ. Grey is aware that he must defend humanity until it has reached a point at which it can defend itself. However, Grey finds that in 1300 years since his last encounter, that he has more to fight than simply the Groadie. A new world order is being established. India, having an incredible population has decided to embark on a campaign to encompass most of Asia, they see the Groadie -- of which they have very little knowledge -- as the key to their success, as the Groadie itself, is the key to boundless, human genetic manipulation. The United States, still the foremost superpower, has created a task force with virtually unlimited funding and executive liberty (though any and all connections would be denied in the event of a disaster with the project) to make contact with the Groadie and hold it for future research and as a trump card if the heated argument with India over control of the central asian oil reserves, should get out of hand. Grey must now work under the political complexities, as well as the governments of these three nations, as he is wanted for different reasons, by each of them. Despite the complexities, though, only Grey knows the true nature of the Groadie, and despite the confidence of each of the nations' task forces designed to handle the Groadie, Grey knows that only he, can defeat it. The current provisional government of India has appointed a man named Tom Orivitz, an ex-Soviet general, and communications officer, head of their task force. The United States has appoined Micheal Frendan, a highly decorated general and esteemed logistics expert. Micheal was given an elite group of highly trained soldiers, using technology unavaliable to the rest of the military to track down and capture the Goradie. Orivitz, while attempting to capture the Groadie, also wants Grey dead. Orivitz sees Grey as the only true obstacle he must cross before he can claim the Groadie. Grey first meets Tom on a transcontinental flight to America, and while caught off guard, Grey is able to escape Orivitz, for the time being. Later, as Grey has found the Groadie and has severely wounded it, the Groadie flees, and Grey's chase is cur short by Micheal's first appearance. While Micheal does not want Grey dead, he sees him as an interloper, and thinks he is only interfering with the U.S. government. Micheal and Tom later find out that Grey is not what he seems, and is not to be taken lightly, as there is apt reason for his ability to single-handedly kill the Groadie in previous millenia. As Micheal and Grey find themselves running into eachother more often, Grey begins to explain his quest, the nature of fate and destiny and the Groadie. Micheal, while amazed with Grey and his sage-like wisdom, fins probing his owne origins and the origins of humanity, disturbing. While they meet and talk, they are not friends, and Grey knows that one he exposes to his vast wisdom, never lives out the rest of his life; it is destined to happen that way. But as the Groadie seems to have evolved, so has humanity and its governments and so has Grey and it seems that the very fabric of existance is being thrown into question. Grey must ultimately face the Groadie and his own destiny.
