Sail Trade
The Sail Trade consists of 3 Trade Groups, of which the listed subject material is conducted over three summers training periods. The Sail Trade Groups are as follows:
Sail Trade Group I
Aim
: The Sail Trade Group I course is designed to provide basic skills for Sea Cadets in dingy sailing.
Length
: 3 weeks
Prerequisites
:
- completed Phase II from LHQ Training
- completed a General Training Course
- recommended by his/her Commanding Officer
- have your parent/guardian’s permission
Qualifications
:
- Sail Trade Group I Qualification
- Canadian Yachting Association While Sail I, II & III
- eligible to attend the Gunnery Trade Group II Course
Sail Trade Group II
Aim
: The Sail Trade Group I course is designed to provide intermediate skills for Sea Cadets in dingy sailing.
Length
: 6 weeks
Prerequisites
:
- completed Phase III from LHQ Training
- completed a Sail Trade Group I Course
- recommended by his/her Commanding Officer
- have your parent/guardian’s permission
Qualifications
:
- Sail Trade Group II Qualification
- Canadian Yachting Association Bronze Sail IV & V
- St John’s Emergency First Aid Qualification
- eligible to attend the Sail Trade Group III Course
Sail Trade Group III
Aim
: The Sail Trade Group I course is designed to provide advanced skills for Sea Cadets in dingy sail.
Length
: 6 weeks
Prerequisites
:
- completed Phase IV from LHQ Training
- completed a Sail Trade Group II Course
- recommended by his/her Commanding Officer
- have your parent/guardian’s permission
Qualifications
:
- Sail Trade Group III Qualification
- Canadian Yachting Association Assistant Sail Instructor (Green Level)
- National Coaching Certification Programme Level I Coach – Theory
- Canadian Life Saving Society – Life Saving Fitness (Bronze Level)
- Canadian Life Saving Society – Boat Rescue
- St John’s Standard First Aid Qualification
- eligible to apply for a Staff Cadet position at a Summer Training Centre or a Specialty Trade Course
