Boatswain Trade
The Boatswain Trade consists of 3 Trade Groups, of which the listed subject material conducted over three summers training periods. The Boatswain Trade Groups are as follows:
Boatswain Trade Group I
Aim
: The Boatswain Trade Group I course is designed to provide basic skills for Sea Cadets in seamanship, small boat maintenance, small boat operation and small arms training.
Length
: 3 weeks
Prerequisites
:
- completed Phase II from LHQ Training
- completed a General Training Course
- recommended by his/her Commanding Officer
- have your parent/guardian’s permission
Qualifications
:
- Boatswain Trade Group I Qualification
- eligible to attend the Boatswain Trade Group II Course
Boatswain Trade Group II
Aim:
The Boatswain Trade Group II course is designed to provide intermediate skills for Sea Cadets in seamanship, small boat maintenance, small boat operation and small arms training.
Length
: 6 weeks
Prerequisites
:
- completed Phase III from LHQ Training
- completed a Boatswain Trade Group I Course
- recommended by his/her Commanding Officer
- have your parent/guardian’s permission
Qualifications
:
- Boatswain Trade Group II Qualification
- Small Boat Coxswain Ticket
- St John’s Emergency First Aid Qualification
- eligible to attend the Boatswain Trade Group III Course
Boatswain Trade Group III
Aim
: The Boatswain Trade Group III course is designed to provide advanced skills for Sea Cadets in seamanship, small boat maintenance, small boat operation and small arms training.
Length
: 6 weeks
Prerequisites
:
- completed Phase IV from LHQ Training
- completed a Boatswain Trade Group II Course
- recommended by his/her Commanding Officer
- have your parent/guardian’s permission
Qualifications
:
- Boatswain Trade Group III Qualification
- St John’s Standard First Aid Qualification
- eligible to apply for a Staff Cadet position at a Summer Training Centre or a Specialty
