Chapter 12: Farwell

Thing looked bleak and dark; angery voices began to growl behind me. They wanted revenge on the deaths of the entire population of Animen. I didn't want to even try to talk them out it; I wanted to do the same. Something didn't quite add up the way it should: how could they carry such a powerful virus if it was a virus? There had to someone or something else to it. But what?

A message was sent to me though the computer. It was weird.

By the time you read this, we will be gone. The virus that has been speaded wasn't caused by human interference; it was caused by - ourselves. We were trying to find a cure for the McBain Project when we began to refert Ty and Strike were first and we will join them shortly. Farwell...

It wasn't a manmade virus; it was the others that created it. I hope that it would be enough to discourage Alpha and the battle vehicals from attacking the innocent. I showed them the message and it seemed to calm them down, but they wondered why an accident could cause so much confusion.

"Officer, is there any chance that some of them have been spared?" I asked him.

"There are hundreds of animen that we managed to bring to a ship orbiting Jupiter, but they also have been contaminated. You can see if you could help them, but it would do no good. Any animen in the area will be contaminated, so it's best for you to stay away from them."

"I can go, the rest of you will have to remain here." I whispered to the team. "It's risky but it's a chance that I must take - alone."

"How are you going to protect yourself from the virus to that we don't get it once you return?" Alpha complained. It was true: how could go there and come back without the virus?

"I'll wear a biosuit!" I declared. "It should protect me from catching it and bringing it back here. I should be gone for a couple of days." I teleported out of the ship and zoomed to where the ship of the reverting animen where held.

Onboard the Rescue Galactic Cruiser, the sick bay was overflowing with animen that were rescued from the planet. The ones that were lucky enough to leave before being infected were in rooms on the other side of the ship. Others were locked into their rooms and were placed under heavy servalience. Odds are that Ty, Strike, General Leo, and the others were in those rooms. I had to get past them.

I crept, in human form and wearing a biosuit, past the coridoor. I was grabbed from behind and a door slid close. It was Brad and Mysterio! They were not affected by the virus; they were on a patrol when the virus began to spread and were the first to be taken to this ship. They had heard what had happened to the others, Ty and Strike will never be the same and will always be a quadrapede. It broke my heart because he no longer needs a cure for the McBain Project; he needs a cure from this destructive virus.
