An offshoot of Nine Inch Nails, Richard Patrick's band Filter has a new album out, Title of Record-a worthy successor to thrie previous album, Short Bus. One of my favorite bands.
The Dave Matthews Band is, by far my favorite band-simply because of the way that jazz, rock, r&b and folk combine when these guys play-and they are incredible musicians live. When asked about his influence on the way writing and recording the songs are accomplished in the band, Dave replied,
"Hell, I'm just one-fifth of the influence in the band!"
What do you get when you combine rap and metal? Limp Bizkit...these guys take heavy way past anything else out there, with few peers. Significant Other, Bizkit's newest release, is about frontman Fred Durst's ex-girlfriend. "I did it all for the Nookie!"
These guys are what you would consider punk, but with a healthy dose of laughing gas thrown in the mix. Who else would put a porno star in a skimpy nurses uniform on their newest album cover, and then title it Enema of the State?
"Are You Ready?" From the very first time I heard KoRn, I've been a fan...From their debut album to Follow the Leader, KoRn assults the senses with a fury and intensity that can both pump you up and hypnotize at the same time. For a good laugh check out "All in the Family" on Follow the Leader to hear Jon Davies verbally duke it out with Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst.
I was turned on to Live when I was in college-a friend of mine forced me to listen to "Operation Spirit" off of Mental Jewlery. My friend never saw her copy of that album again...I still have it to this day-along with their other releases: Throwing Copper(my favorite), Secret Samadhi, and The Distance to Here.
Simply put, these are the heaviest bunch of hispanics to ever play guitars...Best Album:Around the Fur. Best Song:"My Own Summer (Shove It)"
The type of weirdness and happy-go-lucky quality that Blink-182 brings to punk, jimmie's chicken shack brings to...well, I don't know what the hell they are...I just know I like 'em. ...'specially when the bassist falls off the stage.
Combine reggae, ska, rap and metal and you have this bunch of yerk-toting chiva monkeys from Nebraska, of all places. ...But, nonetheless, a pretty cool band. New song, "Come Original"-very cool.
These guys grow on you...at first I hated "Starseed"...and "Superman's Dead"...and "One Man Army" ...But Our Lady Peace has a habit of writing songs that get stuck in your brain until you cry uncle and buy the album. ...And then the songs REALLY grow on you. ...Although the lead vocalist can sound like Alanis Morrissette some times.
Led by Trent Reznor, Nine Inch Nails have influenced countless bands in the '90s and have always been a favorite of mine... and after five years, it's about damn time that NIN is back. Favorite song: "The Perfect Drug" off the Lost Highway soundtrack.
I love Big Wreck. ...In Loving Memory Of is one of the best albums of the decade. The only thing I don't like about them is the fact that ...In Loving Memory Of is their only album so far. However-a new album is coming!
I listen to The Crystal Method's album Vegas when I'm in my office simply because I love hearing them over and over. Track six is the best one on the CD. ...And Filter's/CM collaboration on "(Can't You) Trip Like I Do" is one of my all time favorite songs.
When you tour with a band as a roadie, you would think that you would get sick of the songs they play. Not with these guys-I know, I've toured with 'em.
...lead by Mouse "Mousie Ray Vaughn" Mays and Chuck "Is that a yeast infection?" Hasley, this rythmn and blues band has gone through more drummers than Spinal Tap. But both Mouse and Chuck are two of the best damn musicians I have ever met-and I'm still a big fan.

Rage Aginst The Machine- vocalist Zach De La Rocha is the grandson of a civil rights activist, and guitarist Tom Morello is the son of a painter renowned for his politically-charged work. So it's only natural that RATM's music be politically charged. From songs of conspiricay and revolution to injustices committed by the man, these guys take their music very seriously.
These guys are Canadian, eh? A tight blend of industrial rock and techno makes for a pretty good first album...The Devil You Know
For some reason, these guys never did get a whole lot of airplay.
Faith No More was the band I listened to constantly in high school-for hours at a time. I was introduced to FTM shortly before the "Epic" was released and made them relatively famous. KoRn and Limp Bizkit cite Faith No More as one of their biggest influences. Sad to say, Faith More broke up over a year ago. ...a shame really-their last release, Album of the Year was a good album.
I know what you're thinking..."Slayer? Those guys are demon worshippers and they sacrifice babies and they drink goat's blood and...and..." Uhh...right, whatever. Even though they are the undisputed gods of speed metal, they are, basically a rock band. ...So they like to shock people. Slayer was, in their heyday (the early '90s) no different than Marylin Manson is today. Do I like Marylin Manson? Do you see his logo any where on this page? These are bands I like. Personally, on the songs that Slayer did explore the realm of Satanism and Dark Magic and the like, it seemed to me that bassist/vocalist Tom Araya was telling me "If you fool around with this, bad things will happen to you." In their almost two decades of agression, Slayer has spawned countless imitators, all of whom suck royally. Their second album Reign In Blood is considered by many to be the definitive heavy metal album of all time. I know I have written a lot about Slayer-more so than the other bands on this page, and I haven't even listened to them in years or bought their last two albums-mabye it's me growing up-but Slayer fans are very intense about this band. I am still a fan of the speed metal deity known as Slayer. If you are a Slayer fan-you know what I'm talking about.
From Slayer to New Order-yes I know I have rather eclectic tastes. But New Order is great, Revenge is great (if you don't know what I'm talking about, then you're not a New Order fan). Favorite Album: Substance, followed closely by Republic.
I have been a Metallica fan for over 13 years and am still in awe of this band. After listening to Garage, Inc (I still have my beat up copy of Garage Days Re-Revisited on tape), I came to the conclusion that Metallica can take any old rock song and cover it and make it sound great. I've never been much of a Lynard Skynard fan, but I love Metallica's version of "Tuesday's Gone". I can't think of a bad album that they've put out-Load had a couple of weak spots, but that's it. Favorite album: ...And Justice For All, followed closely by Master of Puppets.
For those that know, notice I'm using the older logo-I still think it looks better than the new one.
Depeche Mode have endured...and I still listen to their stuff-all of it. Violator is one of my all-time favorite albums. ...And now that David Gahan is finally off drugs, mabye they can put out another album.
"Ah, the nice boys in the musical group tool. Such good lads. These charming gentleman like to compose little ditties about religion, LA being flushed down a toilet, and violent self-introspection...such nice boys!". Now grandma, I know you like 'em, but this is my music page, 'kay? So...about tool...ah, forget it.
