Briefing Room
Name: Thomas Eugene Paris
Rank: Ensign (Demoted in Thirty Days)
Played By: Robert Duncan McNeill
About the Character: Tom Paris was destined to follow in the footsteps of his father, Admiral Owen Paris, who in turn came from a long line of Starfleet Parises. Tom Paris was a gifted pilot, having flown a shuttle at the age of eight. His dream was to serve in the Earth Navy, but enrolled into Starfleet Academy, probably at the insistence of his father. He spent a term of his Academy years in Marseilles, France, where he became aquatinted with the proprietor of an establishment called Sandrine's. After a flying exercise that cost the lives of three of Paris' fellow officers, he falsified reports and continued on his Starfleet career. Soon after, however, he confessed to have falsified reports and was dismissed from Starfleet. He then joined the Maquis under the command of Chakotay. On his first mission, he was caught by Starfleet and taken to the Auckland Rehabilitation Colony. It was at the Rehab Colony that Captain Kathryn Janeway of the USS Voyager came to petition for his help in tracking down a Maquis ship that had disappeared into the Badlands. After the USS Voyager was pulled into the Delta Quadrant, Tom Paris was awarded the field commission of Lieutenant and chief Conn Officer. Early in the trip, Paris was accused of murdering a prominent scientist, but those charges were later cleared. Tom Paris was also instrumental in retaking Voyager after a Kazon sect, with the assistance of Seska, took Voyager and marooned the crew on a volcanic planet. After an incident with the Moneans, a Delta Quadrant race that lived on an artificially created ocean world, Tom Paris was reduced to the rank of Ensign for disobeying the Captain's direct orders. Currently, Tom Paris is romantically involved with Chief Engineer Lieutenant B'Elanna Torres.
Rank: Lieutenant
Played By: Roxann Dawson
About the Character: B'Elanna Torres grew up on Kessik IV with her human father and Klingon mother. Her father left her at the age of five, for reasons unknown. Her childhood history is vague, but signs point to the fact that her childhood on Kessik was unpleasant and her relationship with her mother was less than cordial. She joined Starfleet Academy despite her mother's objections, but dropped out in her second year. For an unspecified period during her Academy career, Torres was involved with Maxwell Burke, who became the first officer of the USS Equinox, which Voyager encountered later in the Delta Quadrant. Afterwards, she became a member of the Maquis, serving in the cell of a commander named Chakotay. Their ship was intercepted by the Caretaker's tachyon beam and taken to the Delta Quadrant, with a Starfleet spy named Tuvok and a Cardassian spy named Seska on board. It was in pursuit of the Starfleet officer that the USS Voyager was dispatched. Once the Maquis ship was destroyed in a battle with a Delta Quadrant species called the Kazon, Torres and the rest of the Maquis were granted positions aboard Voyager. Since the death of Voyager's Chief of Engineering, Torres was promoted to fill the position at the insistence of First Officer Chakotay. In the Delta Quadrant, Torres was once captured along with Paris by Vidiians, who split her into two people, one wholly Klingon and the other pure human. The Klingon died in the escape attempt, but the Klingon DNA was restored to the human half subsequently. During a near death experience, Torres claimed to have been on the Klingon Barge of the Dead and made peace with her mother. Currently, B'Elanna Torres is involved romantically with Ensign Tom Paris.
