Briefing Room
Name: Kes
Rank: Nurse
Played By: Jennifer Lien
About the Character: Kes was of a subterranean race called the Ocampa, whose lifespans were only 9 human years long. Kes was the only Ocampa in recent memory to have made it to the surface of their planet, which had become a desert after an experiment gone awry by the Caretaker's people. She was enslaved by the Kazon, but eventually rescued by Voyager and Neelix. She then joined the Voyager crew with Neelix, becoming Voyager's nurse and tending to the Hydroponics bay. She was once possessed by a 200-year-old warlord entity, which led to the demise of her relationship with Neelix. During her possession, she experienced evil within herself and many believe that a part of her innocence was ripped away. Kes once also went 'out of sync' with the rest of the Voyager crew and began to travel backwards in time, from being on her deathbed to before she was conceived. During this time, she experienced an alternate timeline in which she was married to Tom Paris after B'Elanna Torres died along with Captain Janeway in the "Year of Hell". She also had a child who then married Harry Kim and became grandmother to Andrew Kim. But after being returned to the correct timeline, she informed the Voyager crew of the Year of Hell, thus avoiding that particular scenario. Later on, Kes 'ascended' to a 'higher plane of existence' and in the process gave Voyager a push past Borg space, cutting 10 years off their journey. Debates still abound as to whether to say Kes is officially 'deceased' or merely 'evolved'.

About the Character: Seven of Nine, also know as Annika Hansen, was assimilated into the Borg Collective when she was six. Her parents had been studying the Borg when they were assimilated. She spent the majority of her life in the Collective, until severed from it by Captain Janeway. Her Borg implants were mostly removed, and now serves on Voyager as a valuable member of the crew. Her expertise is in the Astrometrics Lab, although she also works in Engineering and on the Bridge occasionally. Seven once attempted to rejoin the Collective of her own volition soon after being severed from the Collective, but that was discovered to be due to a 'homing beacon' on the USS Raven, Seven's old ship when Voyager came into the beacon's range. While the Voyager crew was attempting to steal a Borg transwarp coil, Seven expressed a wish to rejoin the Collective, but was rescued by Captain Janeway after it was discovered that she was coerced into it by the Borg Queen. Seven has now come to grips with her individuality and become more integrated into the crew. She has forged a friendship with Naomi Wildman as well as been accepted by most of the crew.
