The Gallery, Part IV--Guest Exhibits 7

This is where I am displaying some of the works of my favorite dragon and fantasy artists.

I have a great love for angels--not the silly, chubby-baby variety, but _real_ angels--majestic, fearsome, messengers of God. My deep belief is that angels and dragons are one in the same, though they may take human forms.

These images are credited as "designed" by Robert Allen Haas, and Haas is the name that appears in unobtrusive lettering near the bottom of each image. The three great Archangels, Micheal, Gabriel, and Raphael (the only angels mentioned by their own personal names in the Bible) are here given a page all to themselves.

Should you happen to come across somewhere I could obtain any more works by any of the artists featured in this gallery, (Shalatain, Musgrave, Whelan, etc.) it would be great if you could please let me know about it. Thanks! :)

The name Gabriel means "God is my strength". Gabriel is the Angel of the Annunciation, bringing God's command to Mary that she shall be the mother of Christ; he also appears in the Old Testament Book of Daniel, to explain Daniel's prophetic dream. He also appears numerous times in non-scriptural Jewish, Christian, and Islamic writings, nearly always in the role that defines angels--the messenger of God.

The name Michael means "Who is like God?" Many angelic interventions in the Bible are credited to Michael, whom Jewish, Christian, and Islamic theology all recognize as the greatest of all the angels. Tradition has it that he came to Mary to prepare her for death. He is most famous for having cast Satan (former chief of angels) out of heaven in the enormous wars of rebellion. It is said the the many-eyed, many-winged Cherubim are born from his tears. Michael, with flaming sword, appears to defend God's faithful wherever they are threatened.

The name Raphael means "God Heals". It almost seems as wrong to have a favorite angel as it does to have a favorite child, but I must admit that Raphael is my favorite. He appears by name in only one place in the Bible, the Book of Tobit (which is not recognized by some protestant sects) a beautful story of God's rewards for two devout and faithful families. In this tale he mends the physical, spiritual, and even financial woes of his charges as well as guarding and guiding young Tobias on a dangerous journey, thus earning him status as healing angel and patron of travellers. Throughout the extra-scriptural legends of the three great monotheistic faiths, Raphael appears always to comfort and heal.
