Emmanuel Jose Fernandez (Manny) is the eldest child
of one of thousands of illegal aliens now living in the United States.
With his Spanish-speaking mother, half dozen younger siblings, and elderly grandmother,
Manny spent his life before the change as one of the nameless horde of
migrant farmers. He spent his time traveling north in the summer,
south in the winter, following the harvest seasons in the United States.
Ill-educated, Manny has never attended school for more than a month or
two at any given school. Still, what he lacks in book learning he
more than makes up in street smarts learned from his peers and his wily
grandmother.
The summer after his fifteenth birthday, Manny began
having disturbing dreams involving wolves and monsters. The farmers,
the other workers, and even his own family began to treat him differently,
warily. As the distrust grew, so did his isolation, and Manny found
himself spending more and more of his time alone in distant fields or wandering
through the woods in solitude.
Then, on one of his walks, he was attacked by a
gator-headed monster with huge, powerful jaws. Manny panicked and
ran, terrified by what he saw and the strange feeling that his mind was
leaving and instinct was taking control. He awoke, naked and confused,
in a distant field on the other side of the farm. Frightened, he
slunk back to his mother's trailer, only to be met by his elderly grandmother.
Nanna, a knowledgable Uktena Kinfolk, explained
to Manny his heritage and his duty. He was to go to a nearby Caern,
to be taught of Gaia and the Uktena. With him went a powerful Fetish,
the Heart of the Spirit, which would bolster his weak Ragabash Rage and
Homid Spirit.
Manny is a small and wiry boy of obvious Hispanic origin. He is fluent
in both Spanish and English, a result of years of translating for his mother.
As a member of the Sept of Gaia's
Strength, Manny has developed a reputation for pranks and slick scouting.
His Garou name, FoolsShadow, is the result of his most (in)famous, which
played on the oh-so-typical paranoia of the Shadowlord
Raphael
Trask. Unfortunately for Manny, however, he is the only Uktena
Garou in the Sept, and has learned little of his heritage here in Michigan.
His search for the Nuweisha known as Jake the Snake has broadened his horizons.
He recently traveled south again to locate his family (turns out Mom knew
exactly what she was getting into). Soon Manny hopes to travel in
search of his people (especially his father) and the magic which he has
seen but does not yet understand.
"Still an excitable pup, but his energies, so far, have been directed to good ends."
"He's got delusions of grandeur. But, he may grow into them,
someday."
"Running in shadow
One finds disciplined purpose,
or distracted greed."
