The Lost Civilization of Atlantis

 

The History..

          The island of Atlantis had a prosperous and intelligent civilization that vanished without warning close to 12,000 years ago.  The only records of it are from the philisopher Plato in 4 B.C., and from Egypt.   Plato told about the fate of Atlantis through two of his works: Timaeus and Critias.  It is said that the destruction of Atlantis happend 9,200 years before Plato's birth.  In the early part of the 20th century, a man named Edgar Cayce told how Atlantis was destroyed, and that there was a "Hall of Records" in between the paws of the Sphinx, underground.  In this "Hall of Records" Cacye predicted that the history of Atlantis would be revealed to the world.  Egypt has found the hall, but for the time beeing they are not planning on opening it.

Myth, Legend, or Fact..

          Almost every civlization on Earth has some story about how Atlantis vanished.  These theories range from earth quakes, and floods to tsunamis and continental displacement.  The continental displament is one of the most interesting if you ask me, see the quote below:

           "The earth-crust displacement theory states that when the polar icecaps acquire too much mass, they shift in one great piece, re-positioning everyting with relation to the poles. This is why Atlantis is usually positioned two thousand miles north, while it is entirely feasable that Atlantis exists under Antarctica."
