Zeek is a Hahns Macaw, the smallest species of the Macaw family. He has all the attitude of his larger cousins (such as the Scarlet Macaw and the Blue and Gold Macaw), but in a smaller package. The Hahns Macaws are often called "Red-Shoulder Macaws" for obvious reasons.
Zeek knows ONE word ("Hello!") and a few sounds. This is his best trick--we call it "dead bird". It comes in very handy when it's time to trim Zeek's nails.
Zeek has been living with us since 1994. He is a true creature of habit. He has a very specific schedule, and is happy as long as we stick to it. But when we don't follow the schedule, Zeek is very LOUD!
In April 2000, we decided it was time for Zeek to have another bird as a companion. Allow me to introduce Louie!
Louie is a Moustache Parakeet. Louie and Zeek both came from a wonderful store in Pittsburgh called "Pretty Birds"

Zeek and Louie have not decided to be friends...yet. But they are getting better. Here they are, sitting on the playgym together. Look, no fighting!
When Louie first came to us, he wasn't fully weaned. Twice a day we had to mix up "baby bird formula" and feed him with a pipette. Fortunately Louie loves his food, so the process isn't too hard, just a little messy.
In early 2002, we became a FOSTER HOME for several birds from PEAC (The Parrot Education and Adoption Center). Read about them on the Foster Bird Page.
