HL4 Director report given credence

Posted by Carmel Macpherson on Monday, 23 August 1999, at 1:47 p.m.
Well - SFX, a very solid British Sci Fi magazine (which did a great spread on Highlander a couple of years ago) has picked up the Aint-it-Cool report and given it prominance. I would assume that they would have checked their sources. Here is the report:

"..Aarniokoski to direct... There Can Be Only Four
Ain’t It Cool News reports that the fourth Highlander film, World Without End, has finally snared itself a director.
Doug Aarniokoski will begin shooting in October, with both Christopher Lambert and Adrian Paul on board.
Aarniokoski has been First Assistant Director on films like Trancers III, From Dusk Till Dawn, Austin Powers, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and The Faculty, so he’s worked with some directorial big-hitters.
Hopefully this, his first foray as director, will prove he’s a good learner."

SFX

The best news for me is not about the Director per se (who I admit I've never heard of) but the seeming confirmation that there really really *is* going to be a HIighlander 4! :-)

HL4 Director named?

HIGHLANDER: WORLD WITHOUT END Director attached!

Hey Highlander fans... You folks have been bugging me and pushing me to get something for y'all for quite some time now, and ya know... Shucks... Ok, I will. It seems that Doug Aarniokoski has been signed aboard to direct HIGHLANDER - WORLD WITHOUT END, and will begin shooting this October with Christopher Lambert and Adrian Paul aboard.
So who is this Doug bloke? Well, he's been learning the ropes for quite some time now as the First AD on films like TRANCERS III, FOUR ROOMS, TALES FROM THE HOOD, FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, AUSTIN POWERS, FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS and THE FACULTY. So he's been learning from folks like Robert Rodriguez, Jay Roach, Terry Gilliam, Richard LaGravenese, etc.. So now he's stepping up to the plate to try his shot at bat. So... We'll just have to hope and pray that he makes a good Highlander movie... he can't do worse than the last one... right?

HL:TS alert for Canadian fans

Posted by Rissa on Sunday, 22 August 1999, at 1:45 a.m.
Space: The Imagination Station will be airing HL:TS at 3:00AM, 8:00AM and 3:00PM Pacific weekdays starting September 1st. That's the good news.

The bad news is that they are starting with The Watchers instead of season 1.

Cheers, Rissa

The Great HLDU Web Auction #1

Posted by Carmel Macpherson on Tuesday, 17 August 1999, at 6:08 a.m.

Well - as you all know, HLDU is thrilled that Peter Wingfield, Anthony De Longis and Valentine Pelka intend hopping on over to be with us at our 3rd Convention on the weekend of 14-16 April, 2000. Yes - that means you can start at G5 in mid March and then continue on to the southern hemisphere and experience the land of Wonder, DownUnder and continue on to Washington, DC for Legacy at the end of May.

Sounds like a great way to spend a couple of months doesn't it!

Now - we are a very small Fan Club - a l::o::n::g way away from our Guests of Honor. We'd prefer for them not to have to come on over in a row boat. (Ssssssssshhhhhhhh...don't tell them about the row boat - they think we're flying them out........and we *know* how Peter feels about row boats....no facilities - all those monks!!).

Ssssssssoooooooooooooooooo.....

TA-DUM.....since I assured Sonja that she wasn't to sorry about a thing and that I had it all under control, I am launching the Great HLDU Web Auction #1. We intend running another 5 or so every couple of months.

What can you do to help - even if you can't come but just want to show your amazing support and confidence in us??? It's easy. :-) All you have to do is rummage through your stuff and email me with any bright fund raising ideas or with offers of auctionable items. We have a stalwart band of Fund Raisers split between the US and Australia and items can be sent to a US address to save you all any postage. Heck - *we'll* even pay the postage!!!!

So many of you were so generous with HLDU2 and the web auction which followed, so we're giving you all the chance for a repeat performance.

So
1. Email me with any bright ideas or offers of any items.
2. Go to: http://carmel.simplenet.com/hldu3auc.htm where you will find Auction #1 and the following URL where you will get a taste of things to come.

http://carmel.simplenet.com/hldu3au2.htm

Now I also have a whole lot of stuff I need to get autographs for so anyone going to London, G5, or the Cruise who already has their entire house filled with autographs and feels that the time has come to put all that queuing to a good cause by getting *stuff* autographed for HLDU should also feel free to contact me :-)

************Note: No individual person profits from this auction or the running of the Convention. Proceeds go towards the cost of Highlander DownUnder 3. Any profits from the Convention are donated to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.**********

For those interested in London Con--Important News from Wolf 359

Posted by SBO, GA of Duncan and the Head Loafer of HL IV on Tuesday, 17 August 1999, at 8:19 a.m.

I spoke with Brian at Wolf 359 at length yesterday morning. I'd wanted to check on my hotel reservations for the con. After several weeks they were able to get the reservation forms from the person who handles that part of the project. He apologized profusely and said that she was hard to get because she had a full time job. I then asked if she was a volunteer--he answered that they all are and have other, full time jobs. That must be the reason that they are so easy to reach later in the day their time!

Those of you who've made reservations already, you're probably in good shape--you might want to try e-mailing them for confirmation or call directly. In any event, we should all be receiving WRITTEN confirmation of the rooms from the HOTEL directly.

Brian mentioned also that the hotel is about half full--I wondered about that as someone here had mentioned that they'd called the hotel and was told they were full. He also said that after September 1, you may book directly with the hotel, but that'd you'd need your con information (numbers)in order to reserve a room.

He also advised that if you are interested in going but maybe are "waiting to see what Adrian is going to do" (his words, really) to go ahead and make your plans. He has spoken with AP's people (agent, manager, etc.) and everything at the moment is in good shape. Even if the movie begins filming, which he said still doesn't have a start date, AP should be able to attend.

Brian also suggested joining the mailing list to receive updates. You should be able to do this from the front page of their website. I haven't done this yet but am planning to today!

Cheers--SBO

Ok, this is info from various news sources I have found. This month, Davis/Panzer along with Ken Gord are producing a MOW(movie of the week) called Poison. Dennis Berry(HL director)is directing Rosanna Arquette and Jurgen Prochnow is this movie. And the ever expanding D/P merchandising has open it's Beauty and the Beast site.

Peter Wingfield confirms for HLDU3 :-)

Posted by Carmel Macpherson on Saturday, 14 August 1999, at 3:55 a.m.
Hi everyone
Wa-bloody-Hoo. Sonja and I have just had the wonderful news that Peter Wingfield has confirmed - pending professional commitments of course - for HLDU 3 next April in Brisbane, Australia.
So - it looks as if we are going to have half the Apocalypse on our hands, with Valentine coming as well! And as if that isn't enough embarassment of riches, we also have Anthony De Longis coming as well.
For those who really enjoy a small, laid back Con, Brisbane is the place to be on the weekend of 14-16 April, 2000.

This from the AOL AP board ______________________ Subject: Special Announcement Date: Wed, 11 August 1999 08:18 AM EDT From: SLAYER7371 Message-id:
As many of you know I have been attempting to raise $1,700 in order to walk in the Avon Breast Cancer 3-day Walk. In order to raise these funds, I am going to hold my own very mini-auction. I have a one of a kind picture of Adrian that will be signed by him. I asked Rebecca if I sent the picture to her would he sign it for this purpose. The following response is being posted with her permission.

Hi, Sandi,
I just spoke with Adrian regarding your request and he said, "Sure." I didn't think it would be a problem, but as usual, I run most everything by him just in case. :-) Please feel free to send the photo any time and I'll get him to sign it as soon as possible.

Peace, Rebecca

I quickly created an auction website with instructions.

Sandi's Auction

Please feel free to pass this information on to any Adrian/Highlander related board. I need all the help I can get. SANDI

The new Cinescape, Sept/Oct 99 has brief mention of HL4 and pic of AP

Posted by barney on Wednesday, 11 August 1999, at 9:09 a.m.
This is on page 18 of the print issue in their Movies section (basically a status report of new SF movies). The pic is familiar one with AP in black jacket and grey t-shirt with sword.

It reads:
Plot: The continuation of the cult favorite will draw from both the television and feature film wings of the franchise.
Latest Rumors: Shooting is slated to begin in October, with locations including Ireland, Isle of Man, Paris, New York and Toronto.
Inside Buzz: Highlander has always drawn strong fan support as well as high expectations. If the latest film lives up to such high hopes, it could easily reenergize the franchise.
