The following offers a very basic analysis of the three major powers in Saladium - those prominent during the FOUNDING trilogy. For more information regarding these or anything else pertaining to the Empires of Saladium universe, contact the author via e-mail.

Governments

There are several dozen major interstellar governments throughout the known regions of Saladium. Of these, there are three primary governments which have always historically been at odds with each other. This is due to their separate and quite opposing mandates, the races they represent, and the social, economic and political situations that exist within their jurisdictions.

The Unified Confederacy of Interstellar Authority (U.C.I.A.) is a massive governing body which encompasses roughly 10 percent of explored space in Saladium and contains well over 500 trillion inhabitants. The Confederacy is based on the principles of democracy, fundamental freedoms and rights of sentient life, free enterprise, free trade, and security. The government is run by the Confederacy Council which is elected and is headed by the President. The space fleet controlled by the Confederacy Council is operated by Space Command, or better known as SPACECOM. Its mission is one of defense, exploration, colonization, diplomacy and research. The Spacecom fleet consists of approximately two hundred primary and secondary class defense type vessels (ranging from Quad and Nebula class to Galaxy class), one hundred exploratory and seventy-five science oriented vessels. At any one time there are over three hundred other Spacecom starships in service which fall under the consolidated class and are responsible for numerous tasks and are multi-functional. Spacecom also maintains a substantial small-craft fleet consisting of over three-hundred thousand starfighters.

The Akotarsan Empire has been the primary enemy of the Confederacy for many centuries. The Akotarsans (or Tars) are known for their aggressiveness and militaristic tendencies and their outright desire to empire. The Empire encompasses roughly 4 percent of explored space in Saladium, yet it contains only one race, making the Tars the single most dominant species in Saladium. The Empire is headed by the Emperor who acquires the position through bloodlines. The Chancellor is chosen by the Imperial High Council which is made up of appointed members selected from higher class Akotarsan society. The Akotarsan United Imperialist Forces (A.U.I.F.) is the Tars military. The Empire devotes virtually all its resources towards military objectives. Exploration and science is negligable if not entirely non-existant, unless deemed necessary by the military. Most often scientific knowledge is stolen and new territory is acquired through combat, not through exploration. Although the Empire spans over an area of space far smaller than the Confederacy, its mandate for galactic conquest makes it a formidable and deadly enemy to the Confederacy and ultimately all of Saladium. The A.U.I.F. fleet consists of mainly battle ships and smaller scout vessels. Pre-Huradas data put the Tars fleet at over seven-hundred combat warships. The Tars do not operate a starfighter force of any importance.

Reservists - 10,750,000,000

The Manojarran Empire has been the secondary enemy of the Confederacy for nearly as long as the Tars have been the first. The Manojarrans have a powerful military but the people are not entirely devoted to war; science, technology and business are equally important. The government is run by the Manojarran Central Command and is headed by the Chancellor who is elected. However, all other components of the government are appointed. The Central Command serves also as the Headquarters for the Manojarran defense fleet. The Empire encompasses about 1.5 percent of known space in Saladium and is made up of solely Manojarran people, much like the Akotarsan Empire. The fleet consists of mainly mid-sized and a lesser number of large battle and defense type starships. Estimates put the Manojarran fleet in respects to military strength at roughly one-hundred fifty ships. They do not maintain a starfighter fleet of any kind.

Official Name: The United Empire of Manojarr

Major Planets

There are thousands of planets, moons, and other celestial masses that are of interstellar significance. Needless to say, many of the key worlds are those which belong to the Confederacy, the Akotarsans, and the Manojarrans. The following should offer a general summary of some of the major players in the galaxy circa 2596 (pre-Huradas).

EARTH: Founding world of the Confederacy. Homeworld of the human race. Central power for the Confederacy Council and Headquarters for Space Command. Major trading hub. Heavily industrialized. Governed directly by the Confederacy Earth Council, an international governmental establishment based in Toronto.

MANOJARR: Homeworld of the Manojarran race. Central power within the Manojarran Empire. Headquarters for the Manojarran Central Command. Strong military presence, on the ground and in space. Suffering from a global industrial down-turn. Governed by the Manojarr Planetary Council.

TARSUS-AKO: Homeworld of the Akotarsan race. Central power within the Akotarsan Empire. Headquarters for the Akotarsan United Imperialist Forces. Extreme military presence, on the ground and mainly in space. Deteriorated trading zone due to recurring outbreaks of war. Heavily industrialized. State-supervised economy. Governed directly by the Akotarsan High Council and the A.U.I.F., along with the rest of the Imperial worlds.

SHADENAN: Homeworld of the Schwadishians. Massive trading center. Location of Interstellar Exchange. Location of the Promenade Trade Center. Totally deregulated economy. Strong underground presence. Mostly commercial. Governed by the Confederacy Interplanetary Council and the Confederacy Department of Industry, Commerce and Trade.

FELLNAR: Homeworld of the Felloun. Major commercial center. Headquarters for TGI Inc., GWV Stellar&Span Corp., Grednosqu’on Veedleug, Sol-VEGA Minerals Inc., Dyke Propulsions Ltd., Mecha-Hydra Interstellar, and many other significant interstellar companies. Governed by local Planetary Assembly and by Confederacy Interplanetary Council.

KRYSLON PRIME: Homeworld of the Kryslonians race. Major transport link between the Sol system and the Antaris system - a key trading route. Site of Spacecom Starfighter Pilot Training Facility and a major orbital Spacecom starbase and spacedock. Governed by three separate local governments, supervised by the Confederacy Department of Transport.

MESOBTIN: Homeworld of the Mesbittian race. Key trading partner with the Manojarrans. Significant producer of basic mineral ores and manufacturer of several essential fuel components. Heavily industrialized. Large merchant fleet. Governed by local Planetary Parliament. Influenced heavily by corporate Saladium.

LYNZRON: Homeworld of the Lynre race. Major producer of agricultural products. Major exporter of such goods, including several specialized foodstuffs indigenous to Lynzron. Key contributor to the Confederacy Assistance Agency. Governed directly by the Confederacy Interplanetary Council.

PEPSILON: Homeworld of the Pepsit race. Significant exporter of arms and defensive technology. Huge private-operated research facility. (The Pepsilon Divuriag & Te-Ak Labs). Governed by the Pepsilon State Government.

TVG XII: A dead moon orbitting Theta Vorama-Gama. Sole planetoid consisting of fundamental Hyperspace engine fuel compounds. Only extraction site of its kind known to exist in Saladium. Only planetoid shared under a banner of neutrality by all major interstellar governments. First and only documented site of Confederacy-Akotarsan cooperation. Deep within the Negola Cluster, a nebula conveniently located in the three-empire triangle intersection.
