The Law Dogs - Decks

I've tried to include three types of decks here: beginner Law Do decks, "Mr. Suitcase" experienced Law Dog decks, and...well, my decks, which fall somewhere in the middle. I don't claim to have a lot of experience in the game, due to lack of players in the area. So all input welcomed.

"My Deck" - Deck #1 (updated 9/13/00)

This is pretty basic, and what I typically use. This represents a couple of things, including the fact that I don't "take apart" decks to make cards. So if I've only got one of a particular card, and I need it in my Law Dogs deck...well, then it ain't going into my Law Dogs deck. So if you say, "Gee, why doesn't he have Card X in there," it's because of either that, or because I don't have a lot of money. If you have such a card (particularly if it's a Rare) and are willing to trade it to me, feel free to check out my Trading List and we'll see what kind of arrangement we can make. :)

High Ranks: 8 Kings, 5 Tens, 5 Nines, 5 Sixes, 9 Fives, 5 Twos

Strategy

Your basic "Put 'em in Jail, collect a Victory Point deck. Nothing fancy. Don't know how I would improve it, really. With this configuration, I seem to have about as many Lynch Movs as I can ever get around to using. I don't seem to be able to get Dudes Wanted as much as I would like, but I can usually Ace enough opponent Dudes to pick up a win anyway. Updated through Ashes to Ashes.

Starting Dudes Charlie Flatbush
Jesse Radcliffe
Jessie Freemont (exp)
As the Fear Level drops to four, out goes J.P. and with AtA, in goes Jesse Radcliffe. Starting Influence of 5, six Ghost Rock remaining, and two Studs. All without touching your Outfit's production. Not sure if starting The Snitch would be a good idea - I'm still working on it.
Other Dudes Cordelia "Corky" Hendricks (inexp)
Deputy Dave Montreal (exp)
Deputy Milo Powell
Hangin' Judge Gabriel
Jenny Cooper (inexp)
Judge Henry Warwick
Nash Bilton (inexp)
Nate Hunter (inexp)
Reverend Simon MacPherson (inexp)
The Snitch
Tao Cheng ("T.C.") (inexp)
Xiong "Wendy" Cheng (inexp)
J.P. goes out and Deputy Milo goes back in. When the Fear Level creeps back up, that'll change. Added The Snitch and Jenny Cooper, dropped William Olson. No huge changes here.
Actions Bounty Hunter
Clean Up The Town (x2)
Lynch Mob
My Fight's With You
Red-Handed
Sun in yer Eyes
Warrant (x3)
No changes here, although I might add Flight of Angels if I get a chance (maybe to replace a Warrant?).
Deeds Callahan's Ditch
Courthouse
Dentist's Office
Foale's Folly
Golden Mare Hotel
Gomorra Gazette
Hell's End Mine
Henry's Hole
Icehouse
Ike's Strike
Jail
On The Side Strike
Razor Cliff-Mine
Red Hill Hotel
Rock Ridge Mine
San Simeon Mine
Thunder Gulch Strike
Tombstone Dispatch Branch Office
Water's Edge Strike
Some minor rearrangement - the Golden Mare is a little better to defend since it's in-town. Some minor switching of strikes to get slightly better Value-spreads.
Events Founder's Day It's here for the income. No other changes.
Goods Bank Draft
The Evidence
Pearl-handled Revolver (x2)
Quick-draw Holster
Shotgun
Winchester Rifle
No changes here, really. Discount expensive Dudes, makes someone Wanted, get Nate Hunter with a P-H Revolver.

"Nate on a Rampage" - Deck #2 - Original LD Outfit (updated 5/3/00)

Coleman's dead, Corky's dead...and even post-Revelations, Nate's still pissed. This is a Dead Man's Hand deck, incorporating cards up through Revelations into it. It has the weaknesses, and requires the normal strategies of such a deck. Basically a deck for a two-player game.

Deck Statistics

Type Breakdown: 25 Actions, 11 Deeds, 12 Dudes, 0 Events, 4 Goods, 1 Outfit, 2 Jokers
Suit Breakdown: 12 Spades, 11 Diamonds, 4 Hearts, 25 Clubs, 2 Wild
Upkeep: 4 1-Upkeep Cards. 1 2-Upkeep Cards. Total Upkeep: 6
Control Points: 3 1-Control Pts. Total Control Points: 3
Production: 4 1-Production, 5 2-Production, 2 3-Production. Total Production: 20
Influence: 3 2-Influence, 4 1-Influence. Total Influence: 8
Cost: 27 0-Cost, 4 1-Cost, 4 2-Cost, 6 3-Cost, 4 4-Cost, 4 5-Cost, 2 6-Cost, 3 7-Cost. Average Cost: 1.83
High Ranks: 10 Jacks, 17 Eights, 17 Aces

Strategy

Nate gets a Pearl-Handled Revolver (and a Shotgun too!, for Two Hands, Two Weapons), goes out and kills some people (using Dead Man's Hand/action and Kidnapping, mostly). Human Shield keeps him alive. Draw lots of Dead Mans' Hands. either blow away their Dude(s), or get a few Victory Points for Acing their Wanted Dudes. They're going to have to make themselves Wanted on their own, though. Once a lot of their folks are dead, eiher win because of their lowered Influence, or bring out some of those Ace Dudes and take over Gomorra by grabbing any Control Points your opponent was foolish enough to bring out.

Starting Dudes Nate Hunter (inexp)
Charlie Flatbush (inexp)
Reverend Simon MacPherson (inexp)
You want Nate from the Start, of course. MacPherson and Flatbush give you a starting Influence of 6. No other changes to this from the original. It all rests on Nate's shoulders.
Other Dudes Bobo LeVeux
Charlie Landers
Deputy Dave Montreal
Jacob the Healer
Marco Mussovich
Pox Walker
Redbrook
Shouting Tom
Victor Navarro
No changes here since the last incarnation, either. Lots of low-cost Ace-Value dudes. Don't be in too much of a rush to bring them out, since you'll want them in your deck to supply Aces and Eights of Spades. Use Lady Luck to discard them if they start to pile up in your hand.
Actions Dead Man's Hand (x2)
Headman's Axe
Human Shield (x3)
Jackelope Stampede (x2)
Kidnapping (x2)
Lady Luck (x2)
Lynch Mob
No Mint Julips Here
Only Winged 'Em
Out of Ammo (x2)
Pinned Down (x2)
Scalpin' (x2)
Shootin' From the Hip (x2)
Two Hands, Two Guns (x2)
Some minor changes here, added No Mint Julips Here. A pretty good range of Aces and Eights. Since the idea is to give Nate a Shotgun and a P-H Revolver, Shootin' From the Hip can inflict some heinous damage once he has Two Hands, Two Weapons. Get into fights using Dead Man's Hand and Kidnapping. Assure invulnerability with Human Shield. Cheaters must be punished with Jackelope Stampede.
Deeds Bat Breath's Mine
Bottleneck Mine
Cracked Bone Strike
Dentist's Office
Gaping Maw Strike
Golden Mare Hotel
Look Homeward Mine
Photographer Shop
Pike's Puddle Mine
San Simeon Mine
Whiskey Nick's Joint
Lost the Guard Dog House, put in a little more income-generation with the RoS Cracked Bone Strike. Pretty much every Jack that's desirable and relevant, and the Dentist's Office and Golden Mare tossed in for a little extra income.
Events None Who needs a Heart in a Dead Man's Hand deck?
Goods Pearl-handled Revolver (x2)
Shotgun (x2)
Dropped one P-H Revolver. Give these to Nate and let him go do his job...avenging himself on some poor opponent.

"Law Dogs Bicycle deck" - Deck #3 - Original LD Outfit (updated 5/3/00)

Worried about drawing a Cheatin' hand? Never again with this one.

Deck Statistics

Type Breakdown: 13 Actions, 13 Deeds, 13 Dudes, 3 Events, 7 Goods, 1 Outfit, 2 Jokers
Suit Breakdown: 13 Spades, 13 Diamonds, 13 Hearts, 13 Clubs, 2 Wild
Upkeep: 7 1-Upkeep Cards. 3 2-Upkeep Cards, 1 3-Upkeep Card. Total Upkeep: 16
Control Points: 6 1-Control Pts, 3 2-Control Points. Total Control Points: 12
Production: 2 1-Production, 4 2-Production, 3 3-Production, 1 4-Production, 2 5-Production. Total Production: 33
Influence: 1 4-Influence, 1 3-Influence, 2 2-Influence, 7 1-Influence. Total Influence: 18
Cost: 18 0-Cost, 3 1-Cost, 5 2-Cost, 5 3-Cost, 8 4-Cost, 5 5-Cost, 2 6-Cost, 1 7-Cost, 4 8-Cost, 1 9-Cost, 1 10-Cost, 1 11-cost. Average Cost: 3.07
High Ranks: Nothing

Strategy

It's a Bicycle deck. It's not bad as a Law Dog deck either: hopefully you should be able to make and Ace a few Wanted Dudes. Also makes use of Redbrook to do some Shaman stuff, which is kinda fun.

Starting Dudes Charlie Flatbush
Redbrook
Tao Cheng ("T.C.") (inexp)
Well, you can't afford Nate, that's for sure. This gives you a starting Influence of 3 and a good chunk of starting Ghost Rock left over. Having Redbrook out means you can use those Shaman Spells that you draw as soon as you draw them.
Other Dudes Deputy Dave Montreal
Judge Henry Warwick
Mr. Bones
Mr. Slate
Nash Bilton (inexp)
Nate Hunter (exp)
Reverend Simon MacPherson (inexp)
Richard Boothe (inexp)
Vampiric Dance Hall Girl (inexp)
Xiong "Wendy" Cheng (inexp)
Dropped Lucky Ted, added Mr. Bones. This'll let you grab those Cheatin' cards faster. And you squeeze out one more point of Influence.
Actions Attitude
Bounty Hunter
Claim Jumper
Crack Shot
Hired Guns
Hostile Takeover
Jackelope Stampede
Jailbreak
Out of Ammo
Red Handed
Shortcut
Take Ya With Me
Warrant
Dropped Between the Shoulderblades (limited usefulness) and put in Attitude. Also lost No Funny Stuff for a Shortcut. Works pretty well.
Deeds Bat Breath's Mine
Callahan's Ditch
Courthouse
Drop in the Ocean Strike
Elysium Fields Mine
Hunter's Moon Strike
Jail
Labyrinth Mine
Lucky Dog Lode
Miss Coutreau's
Razor-Cliff Mine
Rock Ridge Mine
Sea of Sorrows Mine
Lost the Smiling Lizard and replace with the Sea of Sorrows - a little cheaper, a little less Production. Other than that, no real changes.
Events 1st Bank is Robbed
Founder's Day
Some money makers and general messover cards. Lost the Temperance Army to put in another Goods/Heart.
Goods Dearstalker Hat
Double-barreled Shotgun
Kenny
New Hat
Quick-draw Holster
Shotgun
Still
Winchester Rifle
Tossed Coleman's Badge (too expensive) for the Deerstalker Hat. Still couldn't find an Ace better than Kenny. Put in a Double-Barreled Shotgun for good measure.
Spells Clumsiness
Curse
Speed of the Wolf
Give Redbrook a couple of these easy-to-use Spells and have fun. Put in Curse instead of Sticks to Snakes because Curse has a set Difficulty that Redbrook can typically make if he plays conservative and uses the lesser ability.
Jokers Dead Man's Joker
Fool's Joker
Dead Man's Joker is always useful, and the Fool's Joker can come in handy for Redbrook's pulls.

"Blessed be the Meek" - Deck #4 - "My" Deck - Original LD Outfit (updated 9/13/00)

The Lord hates the sinner, and sinners are going to hate this deck. Miracles galore.

Deck Statistics

Type Breakdown: 11 Actions, 15 Deeds, 12 Dudes, 1 Events, 4 Goods, 1 Outfit, 9 Spells
Suit Breakdown: 12 Spades, 15 Diamonds, 14 Hearts, 11 Clubs
Upkeep: 4 1-Upkeep Cards. 3 2-Upkeep Cards, 1 3-Upkeep Card. Total Upkeep: 13
Control Points: 4 1-Control Pts, 1 2-Control Pts. Total Control Points: 6
Production: 4 1-Production, 6 2-Production, 5 3-Production. Total Production: 31
Influence: 1 5-Influence, 3 3-Influence, 3 2-Influence, 4 1-Influence. Total Influence: 24
Cost: 22 0-Cost, 2 1-Cost, 5 2-Cost, 2 3-Cost, 8 4-Cost, 5 5-Cost, 3 6-Cost, 1 7-Cost, 2 8-Cost, 1 11-Cost. Average Cost: 2.49
High Ranks: 8 Kings, 9 Tens, 8 Nines, 6 Eights, 7 Sixes

Strategy

Start with Rev. MacPherson and go to town. Use Miracles to make your opponents' Dudes Wanted, get out Strikes and more Dudes that are good shooters, then go after those Wanted folks. You don't have a lot of inherent Control Pt. Deeds, so your win is going to come from either your Victory Points or acing your opponents' Influence-type dudes. Or using First Bowl to zap their high-Influence Dudes down to 0 Influence. Angus is there as backup, but keep MacPherson alive at all costs.

Starting Dudes Jesse Radcliffe
Jessie Freemont (exp)
Reverend Simon MacPherson (exp)
Jesse replaces Charlie, since he only costs slightly more, gives the same Influence, and is a Stud to boot. Well worth the cost.
Other Dudes Angus McFadden
Corky Hendricks (exp)
Hangin' Judge Gabriel
Jenny Cooper (inexp)
Judge Henry Warwick
Nash Bilton (inexp)
Nate Hunter (exp-2)
Tao Cheng ("T.C.") (inexp)
Xiong "Wendy" Cheng (inexp)
Lost Olson, added Jenny Cooper. I'd like to put in The Snitch, but not enough room and MacPherson should handle your Wanted-making needs.
Actions Bounty Hunter
Clean up the Town (x3)
Framed
Jackelope Stampede
Out of Ammo
Pistol Whip
Red Handed
Warrant (x2)
Basic "make 'em Wanted" type stuff. No other changes.
Deeds Barber's Shop
Callahan's Ditch
Dentist's Office
Desert Rose Lode
Fu Leng's Laundry & Tailoring
Gaping Maw Strike
Golden Mare Hotel
Harlot's Haven Strike
Henry's Hole
Lucky Dog Lode
Miss Coutreau's
On the Side Strike
Spirit of Kentucky Strike
Top of the World Lode
Water's Edge Strike
Replaced Town Well with the Golden Mare - the latter is far better even if it costs a little more. No other changes. Honestly, I sometimes find the Courthouse and Jail take too long to get out to be any use (and they're expensive, too). Rather than dink around with 'em or give my opponent a chance to bust his buddies out of Jail before I can Ace them, I just tossed both "Law Dog" locations out.
Events Long Arm of the Law Can't have a LD deck without it. Keeps them from running away or doing anything once you've made them Wanted.
Goods Bowie Knife
Deerstalker Hat
Pearl-Handled Revolver
Quick-draw Holster
Basic combat stuff, although the Deerstalker Hat can be handy for giving you some movement benefits. No changes here.
Miracles Confession (x3)
Fire and Brimstone
First Bowl (x2)
Light of the Lord
Snake Handlin'
Test of Faith
No changes here, either. The number of Confessions is a bit high, but lets you make your opponents' Dudes Wanted pretty easily. Fire and Brimstone can immobilize them. First Bowl zaps them down. Snake Handlin' and Test of Faith are helpful backups for MacPherson if he gets into a fight. And Light of the Lord will let you discount one of those more expensive Law Dog Dudes.

"Most Wanted" - Deck #5 - "My" Deck - Hunter's Office Outfit (updated 9/13/00)

Not as strong a Miracle-based deck as #4 above, but it works okay. More of a shooter deck.

Deck Statistics

Type Breakdown: 15 Actions, 14 Deeds, 14 Dudes, 0 Events, 7 Goods, 1 Outfit, 2 Spells
Suit Breakdown: 14 Spades, 14 Diamonds, 9 Hearts, 15 Clubs
Upkeep: 3 1-Upkeep Cards. 3 2-Upkeep Cards, 1 3-Upkeep. Total Upkeep: 12
Control Points: 8 1-Control Pts, 4 2-Control Pts. Total Control Points: 16
Production: 3 1-Production, 8 2-Production, 3 3-Production, 1 5-Production. Total Production: 33
Influence: 1 5-Influence, 2 3-Influence, 2 2-Influence, 8 1-Influence. Total Influence: 23
Cost: 17 0-Cost, 1 1-Cost, 2 2-Cost, 4 3-Cost, 7 4-Cost, 7 5-Cost, 3 6-Cost, 4 7-Cost, 3 8-Cost, 2 9-Cost, 1 10-Cost, 1 11-Cost. Average Cost: 3.63
High Ranks: 5 Eights, 8 Sixes, 7 Fives, 8 Fours, 6 Thress, 6 Twos

Strategy

Start with Rev. MacPherson and go to town. This deck isn't Miracle reliant per se, but it does really need those Confessions (or Warrants) to make folks Wanted. Once they're Wanted, head on over and call them out. This deck is designed for a Straight Flush in the 2-3-4-5-6 range. Once your deck is down enough, and given your Studs, you should be able to Pull to this pretty readily.

Starting Dudes Charlie Flatbush (inexp)
Jessie Freemont (exp)
Reverend Simon MacPherson (exp)
You want MacPherson from the start for the Confessions and the high Influence. Now that I have one, I've added Jessie Freemont and dropped Abel Owens entirely. Charlie (inexp) is my typical "starter due to cheap cost and high Influence. This combo gives you a starting Influence of 6 and 5 leftover GR.
Other Dudes Cain Regen
Cordelia "Corky" Hendricks (inexp)
Deputy Dave Montreal (exp)
Deputy John Templeton (exp)
Hangin' Judge Gabriel
Jenny Cooper (inexp)
Jesse Radcliffe
Nash Bilton (inexp)
Nate Hunter (Exp-2)
Tao Cheng ("T.C.") (inexp)
Xiong "Wendy" Cheng (inexp)
Lots of changes here. William Olson and Deputy Milo get the boot, being replaced with Gabriel (can't fail with him and Jenny Cooper (great maneuverability). I'm tempted to switch Radcliffe for Flatbush in my starting line-up - we'll see...
Actions Arson
Brawl
Con Game Gone Bad
Crack Shot (x2)
Diversion
Giddyup!
Guilt by Association
Jailbreak (x2)
Pistol Whip (x2)
Stoker vs. Knicknevin
Warrant (x2)
15 cards - three each of the values from 2 - 6. Replaced a Warrant with Guilt by Asscocation - same value, almost as effective. And dropped Sun in Yer Eyes for another Crack Shot. Brawl can set someone up for a Nate Hunter/Shotgun Supreme (see below), and the rest are pretty easy to play, get into your deck, and have them there for a draw.
Deeds Buffalo Chip Saloon
Dance Hall
Dentist's Office
Derailed Cafe
Foale's Folly
Gilded Feather
Golden Mare Hotel
Green-Eye Saloon
Hell's End Mine
Miss Coutreau's
Miss Greene's Room
Red Hill Hotel
Sunnyside Hotel
T & Q Cattle Ranch
Becomes much more of a brothel/saloon deck with the addition of the Sunnyside, the Golden Mare, and the Dance Hall. Other than that, basic Control Point/Income generators. Again, Jail and Courthouse just weren't working out for me, and I need the Jail even less with Hunter's Office.
Events None Wouldn't mind a Long Arm of the Law, but just don't have it. Nothing else I really want in here.
Goods Bolt-Action Rifle (x2)
Corky's Sidearm
Double-Barreled Shotgun
The Evidence
Roll of Dimes
Shotgun
Replaced the P-H Revovler with Corky's Sidearm - you get the half-cost discount as a Law Dog/Hunter's Office Outfit, and the extra Crack Shot plus the usual Law Dog distribution means you've got more then enough Studs. Give Nate the D-B Shotgun and the Roll of Dimes and watch 'em run! Make him a Crack Shot/Stud and he's even scarier. That'll only work once, so then get him out of there and give him a Bolt-Action Rifle. Mr. Stud-6 should do pretty well after that, helping you to draw those Straight Flushes. This selection takes full advantage of the Hunter Office discount, and The Evidence helps to make someone Wanted.
Miracles Confession (x2) No changes here. Confession to make them Wanted. That's it. This deck isn't designed to pull that high, so don't go overboard in targeting high-Value Dudes. Warrant, Guilt by Association, and the Evidence should help you sufficiently there.
