This is the official web page dedicated to the best group in WarBirds, the Wildcats, flying for the glorious GREEN country. If you're unfamiliar with WarBirds, it is a WWII simulation of aerial combat and bomber operations. It's quite good and I find myself spending way too much time on it, but it really is that good. One of the things that many people, like myself, who really enjoy the simulation, do is join or form "squadrons." That is, a group of pilots who fly together on a regular basis. These squadrons or "squads" usually meet on a regular basis to discuss tactics and future operations and then go out and fly together as a team.
The Wildcats was one such squad, but then we decided to do it one better: we formed ourselves into a bombardment GROUP! We're about nine months old, so we don't have a lot of history or many members, but we've got skill, determination, and a real desire to be the best squad in WarBirds.
Our main goal is to have fun. Let's face it, no matter how much we love the simulation, it's still just a sim. That's not to say we don't take it seriously. We do take it seriously: as a simulation. We're also interested in fighter tactics and bombing operations. We try to be historical in the way we fly, but there is only so much we can do. The sim is only so accurate. But that doesn't stop us from trying. However, given a choice between what's fun and works versus what's historical and doesn't work, we'll take the fun and leave the history for the rest of them.
The squad is just nine months old, and so is this page. We've been expanding both at a rapid pace. We've already flown in competition against other established squads and have many more similar events planned. We have a full array of ribbons and awards, and have even had the opportunity to award many of them! The Wildcats are on the move, if you'd like to join us, Contact our Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Patton.
All Pilots: We'll be holding two flights each week. The Thursday night flight will concentrate on group and squadron tactics. The Saturday night flight will be a scenario or historical arena flight. The Thursday night flight will be "hosted" by the CO, Lieutenant Colonel Patton, but an officer in tactical command (OTC) may be designated. General Stevie will lead the Saturday night missions and run the ICQ chat session. Prior to each flight, the pilots will meet in ICQ chat for a briefing and then will proceed to the properly designated arena.
All Pilots:The following staff positions need to be filled: Group Deputy Commanding Officer, Group Executive Officer, Operations and Training Officer, Adjutant, Intelligence Officer, Logistics Officer, Civilian Relations Officer, Communications Officer, Bomb Squadron Executive Officer, and Escort Squadron Executive Officer. Inquiries should be directed to the Group Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Patton.
