This page is in support of the Real Space column that I am writing. It will appear monthly in the Perry Rhodan magazine that has just been re-launched in English. It looks like the magazine is really starting to take off! Be sure to look for it.
My column is meant to explore what is happening in the real world earth's space program - both today and tomorrow. We'll be examining the science that has been done in the past or is being done today, to develop the technology for tomorrow's application. What would be the impact to the space program if we do find liquid water on one of Jupiter's moons? What will be the impact of finding water on our own moon? Are we really likely to be hit by an asteroid in the near future, and how would we stop it? We'll be looking for answers to these and similar questions in the column.
We'll be looking at what is happening in today's space program, not only at NASA, but at the other space agencies around the world. We'll also explore some of the commercial activities that will lay the foundation for real space activity. We are already seeing the start of this, (do you want your ashes in space also?) and when the International Space Station is built, this should increase dramatically.
Finally, what does the future hold for the space program. Can we develop it to the point where tourist trips are a feasible activity? How much would the cost of space travel have to decrease so you or I could take a tourist trip to the moon? Stay tuned and find out.
This column is also meant to look at the science behind some of what you read in the Perry Rhodan series. For instance, how do those various drive systems work? Is it possible to build a cell activator?
To support all the above, I also will be placing links on my Real Space resource page that will direct you to sites with additional information for further study. Take advantage of these to help you learn more about what is out there in Real Space!
Are there topics you would like to see explored? Do you have suggestions for improvement to the column? Know of any useful websites or links to help other readers? Drop me an email at: rjost@zianet.com
It would help me greatly if you put "Real Space" in the subject line, so I can direct it to the proper folder in my email program.
