| The island of Herm Herm is a small island about 3 miles from Guernsey. It is a tourist attraction popular with both visitors and locals who appreciate it's unique beaches and relaxed atmosphere. Cars are not allowed on Herm, and the only motorised vehicles tolerated are a few tractors and quad-bikes necessary for farming. The main harbour is situated on the west coast of Herm. Guernsey's St Peter Port harbour can be seen just across the stretch of water known as the Little Russel. Boats travel frequently during the summer season, most bringing daytrippers to the island, and others such as the early morning milk boat export Herm's produce. |
| One of the unique features of Herm is Shell Beach. There is no sand on this shore. Instead the beach is covered with tiny shells washed in by the tides. Although less kind to the feet than sand, the shells are so small as to make no difference to visitors and it is a very popular place to spend the day. |  |

Lying just South of Herm is Jethou
(pronounced Jet-oo). This small island is privately owned and not open to the public.
However, boat trips are available and are a good way to see the Gannet and Puffin colonies
near the shores of Jethou. This shot was taken from a beach near Herm harbour. Jethou is the island to the left. On the right Guernsey's Jerbourg point (pronounced Jer-berg) can just be seen. |
