Space1999

It's nice to see Space:1999 back on TV (BBC2, Monday 6:25pm). Space:1999 was one of those accidents of television ratings. Originally intended as a sequel to UFO (cunningly titled UFO:1999), then head of ITC Lew Grade stopped Gerry Anderson going ahead. Later, Anderson proposed making use of the pre-production effort they had already invested in and created Space:1999. Nice one Gerry. One of the best science-fiction spacecraft ever created were the workhorses of Moonbase Alpha, the Eagles. Taking a lead from Thunderbird 2, the Eagles had interchangeable pods. From nuclear waste freighter through personnel transport to rescue shuttle, the Eagle was certainly versatile. Below are a few shots to jog the memory.
