Baine (BD: 03/92, male)
Nicknames: Bainal (as in Bainal Retentive), Little Roasty Ears (from Avril)
While being a sweet and loving feline, Baine has the distinction of being the dumbest cat I have ever met. I have seen him fall down stairs, jump at nothing, and stare into space for hours. He is also the only cat I know that has had 3 balls removed - he broke the ball of his hip joint off, which had to be surgically removed. How did this happen? He fell off the refrigerator....
When I acquired the second batch of kittens (Grimlock, Lucifer, & Dalvon), he promptly taught them all his bad habits.
Baine has adjusted to Danzig for the most part, but he doesn't understand that Danzig only wants to play with him, not kill him, so there is still a lot of hissing from Baine.
This picture was taken July 1997. Notice the vacant look, and the Hitler moustache...

Mara (BD: 03/92, female)
Nicknames: Skitz-kitty, Little Miss Crumpled Head (from Avril)
Mara is Baine's litter mate. She's also Baine's opposite in just about every way. Until recently, she was a very timid cat. She would hide whenever company was over, and any playing or teasing was interpreted as a personal affront. Last time I tried to clip her claws, she howled & spat, until she finally bit my thumb. You'd have thought I was cutting her toes off.
But now she's much more calm. She was one of the first cats to come to terms with Danzig. She has also stopped putting up with Dalvon's pissiness. Now, if I can just clip her claws...
I continue to be amazed by Mara's acceptance of Danzig. She takes no crap from him. If he wants to play and she doesn't (which is most of the time), she let Danzig have it. No hissing, no spitting, no running away - just SMASH.

Grimlock (BD: 03/94, male)
Nicknames: Grimmy, Grimwald Locksbury
Grimlock is the mellowest cat I have ever met. He has a tendency to sprawl, as you can tell from the picture. He favorite spot to lay on is my chest whenever I am even slightly horizontal, and he constantly competes for this spot with Lucifer.
Grimmy's other favorite thing to do is to back-talk. I tell him, "Get!" and he meows. I say, "Get!" again, louder, and he meows again. Finally I swat him on the butt and he realizes I mean business. This usual happens when he is sprawled comfortably in a pile of clothes. He can be annoying at times but mostly I find him greatly amusing.
I think Grimlock, for all his mellowness, is bothered by Danzig. Danzig is so hyper and so much bigger than Grimlock that Grimlock just wants nothing to do with him.
Grimlock prefers to lounge about, draping himself over the arm or back of one of the couches, as the picture (taken July 1997) shows.

Lucifer (BD: 03/94, male)
Nicknames: Lucy, Lucy's Fur, Vaguely Boo-Like Creature (from Avril)
I am convinced that Lucifer was a black lab in his last life, and hasn't realized that he is now a cat. He fetches (paper balls only), likes to be pounded on and roughhoused with, and follows me around like a puppy. I wouldn't be surprised if he started barking at strangers.
Since the beginning of the year, Lucifer has decided to crawl up my ass and build a house. From the moment I walk in the house, he follows me around under foot. If I sit, he has to be in my lap. If I lay down, he's right there climbing on my chest. Fortunately he's calmed down a little since Brian and Joy have moved in.
Lucifer and Danzig were fast friends from the start. Being that they are both confused as to their species (Lucifer thinks he's a dog, Danzig thinks he's a cat), this came as little surprise. But I have never seen Lucifer more offended as when Danzig went to retrieve Lucifer's paper ball!

Danzig (BD: ??/??, male)
Nicknames: Danzigitty Dog, Mahatma Danzig, Notorious D.O.G., Sheik Ali Danzig, Dali Danzig
Danzig belongs to Joy. We are convinced he thinks he is a cat, having grown up with cats. He has been extremely excited about the fact that he now lives with cats again. Danzig is a Beagle-German Shepherd-Husky mix. He has a Beagle's coloring and head shape, a German Shepherd's build, and a Husky's tail.
Here's a picture of Danzig having a quite moment.

Orangekitty (BD: ??/89?, male)
Nicknames: His real name isn't much more than a nickname!
I miss this little cat. He was very friendly, outgoing, and talkative - but I could never keep him from climbing everything! I would come home and he would be nowhere to be found, then he would meow (which sounded like a scratchy "OW") and I would find him perched in a bookcase behind the books. Amazingly, he never broke anything or made much of a mess.
I know Orangekitty is not a very original name for a cat, but he had been called that for several months before I adopted him, and I never got around to giving him another name. Besides, he actually responded to Orangekitty!
Orangekitty was a barn cat when I adopted him. I was living in New Brunswick, NJ, and about a year after I adopted him, I moved to Boonton, NJ, and could not keep him. He now lives on another farm somewhere in Upstate New York with a friend of a friend.
This picture was taken the day I had to give him up (August 1991) and I realized I had no pictures of him. I get a kick out of the fact I'm looking one way and he's looking the other way.

Dante (BD: 05/97, male)
Although Dante doesn't belong to me, I think I belong to Dante. Dante is an Australian Shepherd pup who is Vfl's crown prince & heir.
Here's a picture of the cute little pup & his already ragged owner, taken July 1997.
