LEXX: Apocalexx Now

Lyekka visits the LEXX crew, or rather a new version of her, and she wants to eat everything on Earth with help from the rest of her species. The crew therefore goes to the planet to talk to Priest and try to make a deal for her to eat only part of the planet.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this episode. There are references to Priest and the returning GG Rota waking up and not being born, we find out where the alien probes came from, and Lyekka returns. The thing is, there still doesn't really seem to be any progress as such in the ongoing storyline. I think we've established that the spirits from Fire are now on Earth, but quite how this is relevant to anything I'm not sure. And when Lyekka eats GG Rota, does that mean she'll be back?

Then there's the Vietnam war elements. Bunny manages to meet a bunch of dead soldiers and there's no explanation for it aside from Xev's 'this is a weird planet'. I don't understand why they're there apart from the fill in a bit of time in the episode and allow Bunny to do another workout. The war Priest starts isn't really any laughing matter, and even his decision to nuke Vietnam at the end seems a little on the iffy side and hardly cause for a giggle. The new Pope, GG Rota, doesn't really add anything much to the story aside from a threat to Priest and Stan and although you can chuckle and marvel at Priest's inept grasp of politics and ability to start a massacre, there's a fine line that's not very well walked here between the drama and tragedy of war and comedy. It doesn't really hit the right note.
