Intro:
Of Spanish and American decent, Alanna is 5'3". She has dark red
hair (dark meaning a touch of rich brown), and the color of her
eyes can be described as clear green (light). Alanna is/was the
daughter of well-known designer Isabella de Vera (widowed).
Isabella de Vera is also the daughter of Juan de Vera. He died
leaving his wealth from his wine legacy in Spain to his daughter.
When Alanna tried to stop her domineering mother from running her
life, Isabella disowned Alanna. Alanna was cut off from the family
money and name.
Alanna Sabre was a lonely child; the rich couple's forgotten package. For the first eight years of Alanna's life, she was tutored and cared for by various "care-takers". Her parents, especially her mother, thrived on extravagances and could not have a child with them. Why Isabella even wanted a child is strange question; if anyone knew. The sad fact was because the child was often left home, Alanna was an unintentionally well-kept secret.
Around her eighth birthday, Alanna's father died. To give Isabella some credit, the woman did grieve. She grieved so much that she forgot her daughter. Alanna lived for 4 years practically caring for herself in their home; the Sabre family no longer employed a care-taker.
"Mother" was out most of the day, trying to "pick up the pieces" of her husband's fortune. She was busy "making a new life". Alanna went to school, came home and often found that her mother did not return until well past midnight. Alanna didn't mind the arrangement; she had grown accustomed to being alone, and she had learned she could not stand her mother half the time.
When she was 12, Alanna was sent to boarding school. Those years were the closest thing Alanna had of a normal life. She hated going home for the holidays, and often tried to stay with other families.
Meanwhile, Isabella de Vera (who had taken up her maiden name again) was making a business out of herself in exclusive designer clothes. When Alanna graduated from the boarding school, she enrolled in college. She was not a young woman of her own right; if not for her mother.
Isabella finally decided to give her daughter some motherly attention. So Alanna found herself being manipulated in any way that might help Isabella's business. Her mother took her along to social dinner parties, so that the prospective employee could see the "darling daughter". Alanna was called upon to weedle out whatever information she could.
All this while, Alanna was still doing very well in college. She befriended a bright, young woman by the name of Lee Cureau. After graduation, Alanna found she had an instinctive business talent. Even without her mother's help, Alanna managed to make herself a very important imployee in De Vera Designs.
Finally, her mother pushed her too far. Alanna stopped the manipulations and severed all ties to her mother. This left her stranded. She had no money, no place to live, and no job. She had no real contacts, either, for most her "acquaintences" were for the benefit of the business. Except Lee Cureau.
Lee has mentioned a family business once. Having nothing to lose, Alanna went to the Hotel Sautana and sought employing help. She did not find Lee, but found a cousin, Kirstia McBain. Alanna also changed her last name to Smith. So, beginning a new life, Alanna Smith became a personal secretary.
