ST. JOSEPH SAINTS' TEAM WINS THE ST. CROIX IAA VARSITY BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP!

On Saturday, March 18, 2000, the St. Joseph Saints won over the Good Hope Falcons with a score of 83-64 at the championship game held at Central High. This was the first time that a private school on St. Croix won the St. Croix IAA Varsity Basketball title. According to Jeremy Ekberg of the St.Croix Avis, "Highlights included a pair of turnaround dunks by Cuthbert Victor, who also came through for the Saints with 2 big blocks in the game to force turnovers". In the VI Daily News, Isaac Causey wrote, "Victor, a member of the VI National Team, had a quiet offensive night but dominated on defense. The 6 -foot-4 senior had 12 blocked shots and grabbed 13 rebounds, even though he had only 11 points, one of the lowest scoring outputs of the season." In the next paragraph Isaac Causey wrote, "After playing the entire first half, Victor sat out most of the third quarter. Chris Isodore led St. Joseph's with 19 points, and Akeem Francis added 17. Point guard James Joseph, normally the assist man, pumped in 13 points."
In the previous weeks both Cuthbert Victor and Chris Isodore have been named Athletes of the Week by the VI Daily News. Cuthbert Victor has been described as a rising Tim Duncan in the Saints team which is coached by Cuthbert George, Tim Duncan's high school coach on St. Croix.
