Administration: Visa Applications

If you are a citizen of Britain, Ireland or any other European Union country, or a citizen of Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway or Switzerland you do not need a visa to study in Cyprus.

Citizens of all other countries do need a Study Visa. The application for this is made by the Cyprus College of Art and not by you directly. To make this application we will need you to send us the following documents: To apply for your student visa you must send us the following documents as soon as possible, and certainly no later than 1 July in the proposed year of entry:

  • A certificate/Diploma to confirm you have completed your schooling or, in the case of postgraduate studies, confirming that you have a BA degree. This cannot be a photocopy. (An alternative to this is an official letter from your school of study, written on official letterhead paper, stating that you completed your studies with them. The letter must be signed by a tutor or administrator, and must be stamped with the school’s rubber stamp or seal).
  • An official letter from your bank stating that you have savings of at least US$8000 in your own name, or equivalent in other currency. This cannot be a photocopy. (An alternative to this is an official letter, drawn up by a lawyer or commissioner of oaths, in which someone else swears they will fund or sponsor your studies. It is best if this person is a close family member, but if in doubt please ask us).
  • An official letter or certificate from your local police force confirming that you do not have a criminal record. This cannot be a photocopy. (There is no alternative to this).
  • A photocopy of the page(s) from your passport showing your personal details.
  • Three passport style photographs of you (please write your name on the backs of them).

All documents must be in English, or if they are provided in any other language must be accompanied by a translation into English that is certified as a true copy by a lawyer or commissioner of oaths. If any documents are missing, incorrect, or they are not received by this deadline we will not be able to apply for a visa for you.

Alternatives: If you do not want to send your original school or degree certificate you can ask your former school, college or university to write an official letter stating that you have completed your studies. This letter cannot be a photocopy, and must be on official letterhead of the issuing institution, signed by an official or tutor of the institution and bear the official rubber stamp of the institution.

Instead of this you could photocopy your certificate and ask the issuing institution to sign and stamp it as a true copy.

If you cannot supply a letter from your bank saying you have the required savings you can supply a letter from a close relative or official organisation stating that they will support you financially during your studies in Cyprus. Any letter like this must be drawn up by a lawyer or commissioner of oaths.

DO NOT SEND THESE DOCUMENTS WITH YOUR APPLICATION FORM. IF YOU DO THEY WILL BE DESTROYED. WE WILL REQUEST THE DOCUMENTS WHEN WE NEED THEM AND ONLY IF WE OFFER YOU A PLACE ON A COURSE. WE REPEAT, IF YOU SEND THESE DOCUMENTS WITH YOUR INITIAL APPLICATION FORM THEY WILL BE DESTROYED.

Study Visas are issued by the Government of Cyprus. If the Government authorities refuse you a visa we will automatically withdraw the offer of any place on one of our programmes without liability. In addition, if the administrative work required to obtain you a visa becomes excessive we will withdraw any offer of a place on one of our programmes without liability.

Applicants from many countries are now required to travel to their nearest Cyprus Embassy for an interview before any visa is issued. The visa will only be issued if the embassy official interviewing you is satisfied that you intend to travel to Cyprus for study purposes and not to take up employment or claim asylum.

Because the College is restricted on the number of study visas it can apply for in any one year priority is given to applicants from countries where there is a high probability of success in gaining a visa.
