December 31, 1996 Dear brothers and sisters, On behalf of the Gonja Association of North America, the executive would like to wish you all A Happy New Year. May all your aspirations be realized. A little over two years ago, the first appeal was made to us for the formation of the Gonja Association of North America. Within this short interval you have responded nobly to its challenges. One of our greatest ambitions for 1996, as you were previously informed, was the adoption and implementation of a scholarship program to benefit six scholars from Gonjaland. The association is proud to announce that thanks to your monthly contributions of $10.00, this program has been implemented for the 1996-1997 scholastic year. The list of the six recipients for this year is enclosed. The association could never have accomplished this without your participation. Whenever there is a note of urgency, GANA has relied on the generosity of its members even at a short notice. This year GANA was able to raise $2,500.00 to help a brother with legal problems. Each task accomplished represents a proof of the awareness of our responsibilities to one another as well as to our motherland. The fact that these achievements were accomplished so efficiently is a tribute to the sacrifices of everyone of us. There still is a need to interest other brothers and sisters who are currently not members. Just imagine the impact of your monthly dues on the lives of the beneficiaries of the scholarship program! Is that alone not worthy of your participation? To those whose contributions, not only monetary but of ideas and time, generated the resources necessary to accomplish these goals, the association is and will be forever grateful. This could never have been done without you. Let us work together towards another year of cooperation and goodwill. On behalf of the outgoing executives, it has been a genuine opportunity serving on GANA. Salamatu
