How to make your own bookstore.

If you read your Geocities newsletter, you know that we are now allowed to sell books on our webpages through Amazon.com. This not only gives your viewer a chance to see and purchase your favorite books, but also allows you to earn some of the proceeds!

First, you need to go to the sign up page to get permission to sell books (don't sweat it. This is an automatic system.). Scroll down and click on the text that says Join now! This will take you to a new page.

The new page has two buttons: one for those with US addresses, and one for those with other addresses. Click on the appropriate button.

Now here's the real gut of the operation: the application.

The first thing they want is the contact information. This means the person who will be running the bookstore (in other words, you!). Fill in your name (I recommend your real one), address, telephone number, and email.

Next, they want the payee information. All of this is about the person who will get all the proceeds of the sales. Usually this is the same as the contact info, but some people choose to donate their money to a cause or friend. Fill in all of the information about the payee. Omit email if necessary (or, if after clicking "submit" the computer doesn't like this and wants one, fill in your own.)

The next field asks for the name of the site sponsoring the books. This is not the name of your main site, but rather the name of your store. Example: "My Choices."

The following field asks for the URL of your bookstore. If you haven't set up an HTML page yet, that's okay. Make up something and create it later. Example: http://www.Geocities.com/Athens/9094/books.html

The following field is for the name of your main page, should they decide to mention you in a blurb. Example: Java's World

Below that, there is a drop down box asking where you found out about the bookstore program. I chose "word of mouth."

Click yes.

After finishing and submitting the application, they will send you an email, giving you:

An associates id. Write it down! You'll need this to get credit.

A page for Amazon.com art to add to your page.

 Tips on presentation.

A few days later you'll receive a second email giving the official approval to have a bookstore, and giving a necessary statement that must be copied onto an HTML page and linked to the amazon.com logo.

Now lets make that site!

Go on to part two of making a bookstore.
