Picture of Kempsey Church over Floods

This is a photo taken looking towards the west. The flood is in the field beside the Rocky footbridge and ford. The surface of the flood is ice. The photo shows the eastern approach to the high ground where the church stands. There are theories about Kempsey being founded around this high ground, as it was defensible due to the marsh on this side and the river on the other, western side. Such theories suggest that before the church there may have been Roman and pre-Roman fortifications on this site.
